Essentials: The Biology of Slowing & Reversing Aging | Dr. David Sinclair
Controlling Biological Aging: Epigenetic Mechanisms and Longevity Protocols
Unlock the active levers you control to slow biological aging by understanding how food, fasting, and compounds like NMN directly influence the information regulating your cells.
Short Summary
- Control 80% of your healthspan by modifying the epigenome, the system that dictates gene expression.
- Activate key longevity genes (Sirtuins) by subjecting cells to periods of adversity, primarily through fasting.
- Track inflammation (hs-CRP) and manage metabolic cues (avoiding constant fueling) because growth signals like Leucine can be pro-aging long-term.
This discussion with Dr. David Sinclair focuses on shifting the paradigm of aging from an inevitable decline to a treatable condition driven by information loss in the epigenome. We detail how high glucose/insulin suppresses protective genes, and explore actionable protocols involving intermittent fasting and strategic supplementation to build cellular resilience.

Dr Huberman, in your 'Essentials' podcasts, please clearly state the original date of the full episode (in this case, Dec 27, 2021) so viewers avoid thinking this is updated current information.
Thank you for watching. Please click the subscribe tab and then the "bell" icon to subscribe to our channel here on YouTube and get notified when new content is posted... And thank you for your interest in science! -- Andrew
As a female audience, I appreciate Dr. Huberman’s attempt to always seeking answers from his guests on ways to improve women’s health. Did I miss Dr. Sinclair’s protocol somewhere? It would be great to know.
Dr. Huberman, could we please have an episode on Fascia?
I like the window setting! ☀️
Interview Dr. Gregor on his books “how not die” and “how not to age”
4 months later and this conversation is still the gold standard for longevity science. 🧬 The way David Sinclair explains the 'Information Theory of Aging' and the scratching of the epigenetic 'DVD' makes so much sense. It really highlights why we need to focus on the Sirtuin pathway and NAD+ levels to keep the cellular reader functional. Since Dr. Sinclair mentions that 80% of our health is epigenetic, how are you guys balancing the 'adversity' (fasting/exercise) with recovery to keep your NAD+ at peak levels? Has anyone noticed a real difference after adding NMN to their daily routine? 👇
Thanks once again Dr. H! I'm a retired Audio Engineer by profession... now 67 years strong; so grateful I found your channels... THE BEST!🙏🏼🇺🇸✊🏼✊🏼✊🏼
Andrew, thank you so much for these "essentials" versions of the podcasts. I enjoy the longer formats when I have time, but these shorter and more pointed versions really connect. Love and appreciate everything you do - keep up the amazing work.
This video is truly valuable! The insights on aging science from David Sinclair are deep, easy to understand, and highly practical. It clearly shows that health isn’t luck—it’s a daily choice. The delivery is engaging, logical, and worth watching again and again! 🔥💪🧠
