Description

In this Huberman Lab Essentials episode, I explain how hormones regulate hunger, appetite and feelings of satiety (fullness), along with strategies to help control appetite. I describe how the body senses nutrient levels and how the brain processes these signals to stimulate hunger or suppress appetite. I also discuss how certain foods can help curb hunger, while processed foods and emulsifiers can interfere with satiety signals, leading to overeating. Additionally, I cover how lifestyle factors such as exercise and meal timing regulate blood glucose levels, which in turn impact hunger and appetite. another tip i've found very useful for suppressing hunger is chewing your food properly. if you swallow everything in huge gulps you may end up eating way more than you actually need to. chewing your food at least 15-20 times will align your eating pace with your body's natural hunger and fullness cues. it allows your brain more time to register that you're eating, which can help you feel satisfied with smaller portions. additionally, proper chewing aids digestion by breaking down food into smaller, more manageable pieces, making it easier for your body to absorb nutrients.

@14:00 , i can't stress this 14:22 enough . Through my own experience, i cut out the processed BS out almost entirely, and my eating habits were so much easier to control when on natural whole foods. Not to mention, I'm just feeling like a new person. Cut out the added sugars and highfructose corn syrup, and you'll be blown away by the changes, I promise you.

Curious about the interplay of declining hormones for women in perimenopause, PMS, and the impact on appetite.

30:50 As a Brazilian from Rio de Janeiro, I drink a lot of erva mate. We enjoy it cold, hot, with lemon or peach—even with milk or blended into milkshakes. However, mate is so effective at suppressing appetite that, when I’m busy working, I sometimes go an entire day without eating, sustained only by the tea. That’s why it’s important to be mindful of your intake. Still, it’s undeniably a delicious drink!
