Order your copy of The Let Them Theory 👉 https://melrob.co/let-them-theory 👈 The #1 Best Selling Book of 2025 🔥 Discover how much power you truly have. It all begins with two simple words. Let Them. — In this episode, researcher, respected expert on intermittent fasting, and bestselling author of Fast Like A Girl, Dr. Mindy Pelz (@DrMindyPelz is here to explain fasting—and, in particular, how it impacts women’s hormone health. Men and women’s hormones are different, and because of that, women MUST fast differently than men. Dr. Mindy is the first person who explained this to me, and this is why I wanted to have her on. I had no idea that fasting would screw up my estrogen and progesterone. Why? Because I first learned about fasting from a male. When I tried intermittent fasting, I wasn’t seeing the health benefits that everyone talks about. Now I know why: I was using the fasting protocol that works for men (and according to research, can wreak havoc on your hormones and metabolism). You’ve seen fasting advice trending on TikTok in health articles; even your friends are talking about it (just like mine), and after this episode you will know exactly what fasting is, why you might want to do it, and what every woman needs to know to get started. I want you to get the right information from a respected female expert in this field. Everyone needs to hear this. This conversation is loaded with research and resources, and as always, extensive show notes are available on melrobbins.com. You can find them for this episode here. (https://www.melrobbins.com/podcasts/episode-103) Today, Dr. Mindy Pelz reveals: - The scientific protocols you need so you can fast the right way - How to fast with your 28- to 30-day cycle for hormonal, physical, and mental health (and what to do if you’ve lost your cycle, like me) - The hormone science of the female body operates (no one talks about this). - What the 30-day reset is, and its powerful ability to transform your health - Why is it a myth that you will lose muscle mass when fasting? - How to incorporate fasting into your life (and never miss a good meal with your family and friends) - 3 hacks to get started with a fast that will make your fasts more successful - The 6 fasting windows and their unique and extraordinary health benefits - The easiest way to put your body in a healing state (it only takes 16 hours) We are going to focus on the step-by-step guide for women, what to do, and why this matters, but we do cover fasting protocols and how-to advice that both genders need to know. I learned so much from Dr. Mindy, and as with all episodes, this is a free resource where you get to learn straight from somebody who has literally written the book on this topic. It's up to you to determine whether or not this is information that you want to implement. Thank you for listening, and I would definitely send this to absolutely anyone that needs to hear it. Xo, Mel IMPORTANT: This podcast discusses fasting, and its advice may not be suitable for anyone with an eating disorder. If you have an existing health condition, are pregnant or nursing, or are taking medication, always consult your healthcare practitioner before going for prolonged periods without eating. I started IF about a year ago. Started slow (not eating after 9 pm, breakfast after 9 am) and kept making the window longer. I now vary my fast between 12 and 20 hours on most days (depending on my schedule for the day). I lost about 60 lbs in a year, and I feel so much better. And the best thing about it is that at least half of what I lost is belly fat, and I dont have any excess loose skin anywhere. I still have at least 40 lbs to go before I'm anywhere near a healthy BMI, but I'll get there. For me the biggest thing I learned is to be nicer to myself. I used to get into this whole spiral of berating myself for having no willpower, and telling myself it was no use and I would never be able to stick to a diet, etc. With IF if I have a few days (like vacation, or holidays) where I eat too much and don't really fast long enough I don't waste any energy on yelling at myself. I just tell myself that every now and then my body should have a few days of feasting, and it's now time to get back to my regular eating schedule. No stress. (And it's actually easy to get back to fasting, because generally just the bloating caused by too many bad carbs will be enough to motivate me.)

Love Dr. Mindy! In my 60's new to fasting! It is my lifestyle now! Did a 48 hour one! I do anywhere from 16-24, five or 6 days a week! My spinal and cervical stenosis symptoms are barely there. I can stretch without discomfort, have a natural happy high, and want to share this with the world! ❤

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that these videos came out just as I started intermittent fasting ! I’ve been fasting between 14-19 hours a day and I’ve lost 4 pounds in 5 last days, while avoiding alcohol, exercising and eating relatively clean. Please bring her back! Love your videos, Mel! ❤️

I prefer to finish my last meal by 6pm & fast until 10am the next morning. The cool thing is that you just fit it into/around your own lifestyle!

I've done a modified IF 16:8 for a year or more, but always started my day with a cup of black tea, milk and honey. Nothing has budged. I'ts finally clicked that the honey has stopped my fast. As of 3/1 I have tweaked and am undertaking this journey with a friend: 18:6 with a 12-6 eating window, taking my 2-3 mile walk before my cup of tea, without honey, then I break my fast (12:00) with a green shake with greek yogurt, PB, chia seeds, etc. Then, about 2:00 tuna or eggs. Then a good dinner at 6. I'm hoping these small tweaks will jump start the final 20 pounds I'd like to drop (in addition to lowering my triglycerides). I'm 58, 5'3" and 155lbs. Posting this to be accountable to a greater community.

Intermittent fasting has helped my depression and anxiety. A month ago I could barely get out of bed. Today, i feel happy and so much peace. When I do get signs of anxiety, I'm able to ground myself, whereas in the past, I wasn't able to. Thank Dr. Mindy.

It's sad that this wealth of information is lost between mothers and daughters during our most formative and vulnerable years. Then you have the medical professionals doubling down on confusion and mis-information. THANK YOU! Now, every mother go out there and teach your daughters about how to track their cycles and take their power back!
