I tell my 12 year old daughter that she’s not responsible for my emotions or anyone else’s! I feel like I’m doing the right thing now 😊

If I could've come across this book 30 years ago in my 20s, it could've averted SO much emotional suffering. This woman, Mel Robbins, is right.

This is powerful. Too many of us carry weight that was never ours to begin with, like emotional hand-me-downs from other people’s choices. Letting go of what you’re not responsible for isn’t selfish, it’s sanity. Funny thing is, when you stop playing superhero for everyone else, you actually discover your real strength.

“You’re not responsible for proving your worth. Let them underestimate you” - this is indeed the most important thing I’ve heard today that resonates with me. Thanks Mel!

I've read the book but I feel like I need to listen to this annually as a reminder. Women in particular, are raised to be such people pleasers and it's hard to get out of that mode of thinking. Thanks all that you do, Mel!🎉

I have definitely learned to let people misunderstand my decisions. I was diagnosed with cancer last year and had one group of people in my life that was strongly in favor of conventional treatments and another group strongly in favor of alternative treatments. So matter what I chose I wasn’t going to be able to make everyone happy. There are quite a few people in my life who wanted me to make choices that made THEM feel better, choices that soothed THEIR anxiety. It was the biggest lesson of “let them” I’ve learned so far in my life. I’m no longer a people pleaser.

Chapter 4 is the most powerful part for me. I’m going through a divorce and her family are so concern with what I’m going and talking bad about me because they want me to fail in everything that I do. They are even more upset because they don’t know what I’m doing with my life. Using the children as pawns and saying I’m not a good parent to my children, which all lies. At that end of the day…LET THEM!! They can think what they want!!!

At 59, I have just walked away from my only sibling. Her last text and recent behaviour has exposed how she really thinks about me. It seems I am her evil, horrible sister. I knew she had issues with me, but didn't realise it was that bad. It explains everything that has gone on over the years. Nothing I do will change her mind. I hope that by walking away, with no-one who she can blame for any future problems she has, she will finally take responsibility for her life and turn it around. I love her and want the best for her, but I also want the same for me. I am finally choosing peace over abuse.
