you know what stopped me was realizing i kept waiting for purpose to announce itself, like it would arrive with paperwork. so i just kept surviving my tuesdays and calling it "waiting for my real life to start." what i didn't clock is that the waiting itself was the disconnection, not a symptom of it. i wasn't lost because i lacked direction, i was lost because i'd outsourced meaning to some future job title and left my actual days completely empty of attention. someone gave me "For those of you who feel invisible" during a stretch where i felt like a ghost in my own house, and i remember reading the line about how meaning doesn't arrive, it accumulates, in the folding of laundry done with attention instead of resentment, and just sitting with that for a long minute. i started doing dumb small things on purpose after that, actual eye contact at pickup, tasting my coffee instead of inhaling it. the void didn't get filled, it just quietly stopped being a void, and somewhere in there my tuesdays turned back into a life i was actually living instead of waiting through.
I didn't know my purpose beyond being a father . Then I started my fitness journey and dropped about 50 lbs . Then two of my buddies that I've seen black out drunk on a regular basis followed suit and now all of us are pushing each other to get better instead of worse . My purpose is diving head first into things so others can get better with me . If you want the world to change it starts with you ! Thanks for all the guidance over this last year mel !
Why so many people visit churches in Europe when they are traveling is because of the AWE you feel when you walk into a majestic cathedral!! 💒. I think the reason people loved to go to the beach is walking barefoot on the sand, feeling the water lap over your feet is tactile, the smell of salt, the sound of the waves crashing over each other, the visual of the bright blue sky & the endless horizon, searching with your eyes for the treasure of a seashell, uses every single one of our senses as we experience AWE!! 🌟
Kindness, love, meditate , forgiveness, compassion is all in the Bible.
I totally agree in the gift of being in awe of the beautiful gifts we can find everyday. A rainbow, a beautiful bird, raindrops on your window, silence in a snowstorm, beautiful blue skies , flowers, your child’s smile so many gifts all around us! It’s the little things that inspire me the most and make me feel so grateful for life ❤
Thank you for this beautiful episode. I am watching from Iran. I wanted to share that even during the hardest times of the war, I could look at the moon and the stars every night and find a sense of awe. It truly helped me keep going. I hope others try it, because looking up can change your life, even in the middle of chaos.🌕🎇
Mel thank you for always asking the questions us as listeners would want to ask the guests ! You have an awesome gift on relating to all of us listeners ❤
I just went on a safari to Kenya and my awe at nature was way off the charts...a bucket list trip I've been planning and saving for years. And besides awe, always pair it with gratitude.
The idea that a minute of awe a day can lower stress and make you feel less alone costs nothing and asks nothing of us except to slow down. Thank you both
Here's a moment I felt deeply in awe - Walking up to Kala Patthar in Nepal, looked up to Mt Everest, surrounded by snowy mountains, not a sound of wind or birds or human, only pure silence in the nature - I cried my eyes out. At the time I didn't know this is being in awe, I just knew I was so moved by the nature.
