This is the kind of financial advice that actually feels doable, not just motivational.
I love all this advice, but there were times when I was living paycheck to paycheck and deciding who to pay what month, that even $10/day wasn't an option if I wanted to put food on the table. I think that's the scariest place to be. As a single income household, I was at the bare minimum for expenses, but just didn't earn enough post divorce, basically starting over. I had to just get through that point so that I could start earning more. So if you are reading this. Know that you CAN change things, even as hard as it seems. You WILL get to a place where you can start saving and changing the trajectory of your financial life!
Peace with money starts when you finally define what enough means.
I never thought about money as something that could bring peace instead of stress. That mindset shift is everything.
No extra spending, keep a budget, but quick commercial break and let me sell something unnecessary
Omg. An ad to shop right after learning to stop shopping on the internet. 😮🤯
Love Ramit, I can’t wait for his weekly YouTube video every Tuesday.
I do know where my money goes. When I was working, as a nurse.70% of my money goes to my savings. Since I was in my late 20s, I have been saving hence I was able to pay off my mortgage. I have an ISA (UK) thats accruing interest annually. I'm in my early 60s now receiving my private pension. and 3 more years I will be getting my state pension. I'm currently living quite comfortably. Lesson learnt, consider saving as a bill.
The budget system that works for me is one that I create once a year. It works because I don't carry debt and my gross annual income is less than 50k. When fixed expenses are 90% of my take home pay the mindset has to be about how to get the skills to earn more. There is no room in my budget for any wreckless spending. How I feel about money doesn't even enter my head because it's irrelevant. I never feel shame about what I spend because its all necessary for basic survival
I really love Tiffany's content and the way that she can humanize financial advice. Ramit helped me, years and years ago, negotiate my salary for the first time with his briefcase technique. I like their perspective of making sure that you set up your finances in such a way that you can enjoy your life and your money rather than always being stressed about it.
