It's never explained in the series, but Raven's mother (Arella) is human and originally from Gotham before falling victim to Trigon's manipulation. In an effort to save her, the people of Azarath transported her to Azarath both to keep Arella & Raven safe as well as to fight against Trigon (the people of Azarath were the ones to originally seal Trigon). Things happened, of course. Raven was trained by the leader of Azarath. Once signs of the prophecy started to appear, Raven fled Azarath and landed back on Earth.

reinterpreting the Batfamily as power scalers is perfect i cannot believe I hadn't thought about it before. All their contigencies and team leading is just utilizing powerscaling effectively.

Someone in the comments thought Star using a bow for three seconds was an error, because she immediately discards it. They seem to have forgotten that it was foreshadowing how much Robin's comments fucked with her ability to regulate her emotions, and therefore her powers.

Azarath Metrion Zynthos is technically not an incantation for magic. It's a chant used by Raven for meditation and focusing her mind. Her powers are magic but she operates more like a psychic. She just uses it to concentrate which is why when she chooses to do it she takes longer to do whatever she's trying to do. When she gets frustrated or mad she gets a boost and doesn't need the phrase but she risks doing more damage than intended. Which is why sometimes she just gets amped out of nowhere and can easily move things weighing several hundred tons.

Fun fact due to dc writers trying to make demonology wellthought, Etrigan became Raven's nephew. His and Merlin dad is Raven's half brother.

Starfire is probably my favorite character in this show (which is saying something considering my goth little heart would've usually locked onto Raven from minute 1), and I agree, I love how she's genuinely not dumb. She's a foreigner who doesn't fully grasp the language yet but she's clever and perceptive and she knows her worth. It would've been so easy to make the whole conflict a misunderstanding plot, but no, she knows what a girlfriend is (and from the sounds of it she looked it up and memorized the definition) and was insulted Robin wasn't willing to commit to the relationship. Love this character

To explain why Trigon's influence is so universal that even Starfire's planet knows his exact deal, the simplest and most fun method is just changing how you look at it. While Trigon is rather obviously demon and Satan inspired, actual Satan/The Devil is an entirely different person in DC. Trigon meanwhile is a cosmic demon that has been taking over and destroying so many worlds and dimensions that he reached a point that EVERYONE fears the name as if he was Satan. As a basic Marvel analogy, he's not Mephisto trying to make deals to steal Spider-Man's marriage. He's Dormammu trying to take what he wants, with only one person acting as his roadblock to the end of all things we know.
