Description

I watched Kingdom of Heaven (2005) for the first time, but quick note before we get into it: this is the theatrical cut. I meant to watch the Director's Cut, got myself mixed up with the version I bought, and accidentally watched the theatrical version instead. I explain what happened at the beginning, and yes, the Director's Cut is still coming later. Mistakes were made. Whoops-a-daisy. The good news is I actually really liked this. I knew almost nothing about the Crusades going in, so this one sent me down a whole history rabbit hole. I loved the scale of it, the Jerusalem story, Balian trying to protect the people, the peace/terms moments, and yes, I thought Orlando Bloom was believable. I also wish I got more Liam Neeson, loved Sybilla, and very much hated Guy. Hope you enjoy watching along with me! Honestly, I think it’s better to watch both versions anyway, since how else are you going appreciate how much better the director’s cut is?

Small correction before the comments get me: I meant to watch the Director's Cut and accidentally watched the theatrical cut. I explain it at the beginning and end, and yes, I still plan on watching the Director's Cut later. Mistakes were made, but I actually really liked this one. What should I pay the most attention to when I eventually watch the longer version?

I cannot describe how much I love the negotiation between King Baldwin and Saladin.

"What should I do?" Honestly, the Director's cut is such an improvement that it's totally worth it to watch it. Watch it with your sister and you can comment on what you find different!

If this movie teaches anything - it’s that if you tell someone something and then smack them afterward, they’ll remember it 😅😂

I swear, Jeremy Irons could read the back of a cereal box and bring a person to tears.
