MAN OF STEEL (2013) | FIRST TIME WATCHING | MOVIE REACTION
First Time Watching Man of Steel: Reactor Breakdown
Discover what two first-time viewers thought of Henry Cavill’s debut as Superman and how the film’s dark, galactic origin story contrasted with previous iterations.
Short Summary
- The film is praised for its epic, visually intense Kryptonian origin storyline featuring General Zod.
- Viewers were surprised by Superman’s inherent identity crisis and the dark fate of Krypton’s established society.
- The dynamic between Clark Kent and Lois Lane, where she discovers his identity early, was a highlight.
- This reaction offers a fresh perspective on Clark’s development from a secretive outsider to humanity’s protector. This is a running commentary on watching Man of Steel (2013) for the first time. They analyze the heavy focus on Krypton’s downfall, the complex relationship between Clark Kent and his adopted parents, and the brutal final confrontation, noting key departures from established Superman lore like Christopher Reeve’s version.

Ironically Henry Cavil literally went to Times Square to see if he would be ID’d in the glasses - and he was not…
When you realize your dad and your adopted dad are both Robin Hood
Michael Shannon was fantastic as Zod in this movie.
"Welcome to the planet" double meaning is classic class.
I've heard people ask why did Clark/Superman struggle a bit at first fighting the other Kryptonians, like commander Faora, and of course General Zod. Thats obvious as Zod and his followers are all highly trained military soldiers and Clark has never needed to fight anyone before and has zero fight training. He had to learn to fight them on his own literally in real time against them.
I love how they portrayed Zod. He was a pure warrior but actually cared about his race. He showed many times that he was a better fighter but the biggest disadvantage was that he was new to the planet. He got up faster than Clark through their first encounter and learned to hone his senses to fight superman. He didn't have much time in the sun to absorb the rays like clark throughout his life. Michael Shannon was a great villain for this movie.
Zod adapted fast to earths Sun because of his genetic engineering as a soldier
RIP Terence Stamp, the original General Zod :(
21:45 The world was not ready in 2013 yet... But maybe now people understand the real value of this character and movie.
Can’t believe it’s been 12 years since we got the best Superman film of all time. We deserved a trilogy!
