I don't think Rocket gets enough love from most people. Where he & Caesar ended from where they started is remarkable. Rocket was every bit as loyal to Caesar as Maurice, and even the trusted companion of Blue Eyes. That's a long way from the alpha that bullied the new kid on the block.
I went into this movie thinking it was gonna be a high-octaine action epic. Instead, I got a biblical story laced with Star Wars and Apocalypse Now, and I couldn't have been happier.
'Bad Ape' was such a great addition to this series 🤣
"Oh no! Why so small?!" Bad Ape had some of the best lines
It's incredible how soon you forget that you're watching CGI generated characters. That's how you know you're watching state of the art special effects, they disappear and stay hidden behind the story being told. The location in this movie also becomes a character. Though the actors wore mocap suits in the WETA studios in New Zealand, most of the snowy mountain exteriors were filmed in British Columbia, Canada.
Not so fun fact: in a comic i believe it's revealed Malcolm, the good human man in the 2nd movie went to the colonel (played by Woody Harrelson), and pleaded with him not to attack the apes. Malcolm was then killed by the Colonel for "treason"
the trilogy that you look back and think "...how is this series about talking apes THIS good?!"
It feels like Caesar's story mirrors the Biblical story of Moses, who led his people to the Promised Land but did not enter it himself. Caesar was a great hero for his people and in the end he accomplished what he set out to do. Thanks for reacting! This was a great modern day trilogy that wasn't just a remake of an old franchise.
Fun fact: Red Donkey is played by the chopper pilot that crashed into the Golden Gate Bridge in Rise. The soldier that shot him is also the same cop that Maurice threw a manhole cover at when the apes tore through San Francisco. This trilogy is so well done. It truly feels like one long story. Instead of showing the general war against humans and apes, this is Caesar’s personal war against the man who took his family. They took the concept of making apes the heroes of the franchise and made a masterpiece.
My favorite apes film! The fact Andy Serkis never got an Oscar nomination for this role is INSANE!
