I find myself saying "pehy heem, pehy that mayn his mohneh" all the time and absolutely no one knows what I'm referencing. Also, it's a very underrated movie that doesn't get reacted to very often. Excellent choice.
Martin Landau as the professor was just awesome. Probably my favorite part of the movie is after he tells his story about leaving the Yeshiva (rabbi school) amd Mike asks if he had to do it over again, would he make the same choice, and he says "What choice?" RIP Mr. Landau.
"If you can't spot the sucker in your first hour at the table, then you are the sucker" is genuinely great advice.
"He wants to turn around so bad, just like me with that piece of chocolate cake downstairs". Another Cassie classic line...๐
This was the last of four movies (The Rainmaker, Good Will Hunting, Saving Private Ryan, and Rounders) released within a years time (Nov 97 - Sept 98) that established Matt Damon as a name in Hollywood.
Never clicked so fast in my life. My favorite movie ... Damon, Norton, Tuturro, and Malkovich
9:13 Met Edward Norton when I worked in the airport. No, he wasnโt overly nice but he wasnโt rude either; he was quite respectful actually. I think heโs just an actor that takes his craft seriously and is very opinionated in the projects he works on. And I respect that. Heard similar things about Russell Crowe whom I also met and was very cordial.
A true gambler understands he has to pay if you lose as much as you get paid if you win. KGB was a true gambler.... He understood in order to respect the game, he has to pay out winners.
Despite an unremarkable theatrical release, Rounders has a following, particularly among poker enthusiasts. Some pro poker players credit the film for getting them into the game. The film drew in successful players such as Brian Rast, Hevad Khan, Gavin Griffin & Dutch Boyd. Vanessa Rousso has said of the film's influence: "There have been lots of movies that have included poker, but only Rounders really captures the energy and tension in the game. And that's why it stands as the best poker movie ever made." (Source: Wiki).
At the end he says "1st place at the world series of poker is 1 million bucks, does it have my name on it?" This movie came out in the late 90s. It's 2025, and 1st place in the main event at the WSOP now hovers around 10 million for reference. And this movie is a huge reason why. Not the sole reason but certainly a big one. Not one player in that tournament will tell you they've never seen Rounders. Its that iconic.
