STANLEY KUBRICK'S MASTERPIECE! 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) Full Movie Reaction Watch Along: https://www.patreon.com/thereelrejects 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) Full Movie Reaction, Breakdown, Commentary & Spoiler Review! — Greg Alba & Coy Jandreau experience 2001: A Space Odyssey for the first time, and calling this a mind trip honestly feels like an understatement. Directed by Stanley Kubrick, this landmark sci-fi film is less about traditional plot and more about human evolution, technology, tools, artificial intelligence, and our place in the universe. From the haunting opening black screen and “Dawn of Man” sequence, to the iconic monolith, to the bone-to-satellite match cut, this movie constantly challenges how films are structured and how stories are told. We react in real time to the practical effects that still look unreal decades later, the overwhelming sound design meant to be felt, not explained, and the slow-burn existential dread that builds toward one of cinema’s most iconic arcs: HAL 9000 vs humanity. Watching HAL evolve from trusted tool to existential threat becomes a chilling commentary on artificial intelligence, autonomy, and control — themes that feel even more relevant today. Characters & Cast: Dr. Dave Bowman (Keir Dullea), Dr. Frank Poole (Gary Lockwood), HAL 9000 (Douglas Rain), Dr. Heywood Floyd (William Sylvester) #2001ASpaceOdyssey #StanleyKubrick #SciFiClassic #MovieReaction #FirstTimeWatching #HAL9000 #AIinMovies #ExistentialCinema #FilmAnalysis #ClassicMovies #ReelRejects #react #reaction #moviereaction #review Watchmen Reaction (Commentary) https://youtu.be/FEv9ReoKcRk Interstellar Reaction https://youtu.be/Wt27XQdSvR0 Arrival (2016) Reaction https://youtu.be/MmhmHevTD3Q The Batman Reaction (Commentary) https://youtu.be/1T4g7AwZKNY 0:00 Checking In! 1:49 2001 A Space Odyssey Reaction 31:18 JOIN US ON PATREON! 33:08 2001 A Space Odyssey Movie Reaction 1:13:52 2001 A Space Odyssey Review / Closing Thoughts Follow Coy Jandreau: https://www.youtube.com/@CoyJandreau https://www.tiktok.com/@coyjandreau?lang=en https://www.instagram.com/coyjandreau/?hl=en https://twitter.com/CoyJandreau Follow Greg Alba https://www.instagram.com/thegregalba/ https://twitter.com/thegregalba Intense Suspense by Audionautix is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Support The Channel By Getting Some REEL REJECTS Aparrel! https://www.rejectnationshop.com/ RR Clips & Shorts Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@ReelRejectsClips Follow TheReelRejects On The Socials: IG: https://www.instagram.com/reelrejects/ TT: https://www.tiktok.com/@thereelrejects?lang=en TWITTER: https://twitter.com/thereelrejects FB: https://www.facebook.com/TheReelRejects/ Music Used In Ad: Hat the Jazz by Twin Musicom is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Happy Alley by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Head Editor: https://www.instagram.com/praperhq/?hl=en Supervising Producer: https://twitter.com/nerdchronic?lang=en Co-Editor: Greg Alba Music In Video: Airport Lounge - Disco Ultralounge by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow & Listen to Us Wherever You Get Your Podcasts!! - Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3XHMwbveiznxSOGxN9XT0M - Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy5tZWdhcGhvbmUuZm0vc3Rhci13YXJzLXRhbGs - Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-reel-rejects-tv-movie-recaps/id1616339990 - Audible: https://www.audible.com/pd/The-Apocalypse-Podcast/B08JJP58FG Ask Us A QUESTION On CAMEO: https://www.cameo.com/thereelrejects PLAYLISTS: Trailer Reactions & Reviews: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-bIhJVeYWw9ZsLdoAQFpx38s2hhyFgDe Movie Reviews: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-bIhJVeYWw-comtadVs8b9JsZEWHUyr8 Movie Talk (News, Spoiler Reviews, & Film Rumors!!!): https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-bIhJVeYWw8fPQ-21NVSb2IOwIiHbVt8 Youtube Video Reactions & Discussions: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-bIhJVeYWw_qwcPsN_vOxXC6IVzrOQYG Sketches & Short Films: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-bIhJVeYWw_zWuTRfBOUP3aYyIYRzc2y

This movie is the reason Star Wars, Alien, Interstellar and Blade Runner ever got made. One of the most influential movies of all time.

The scene on the moon where the black obelisk sends out the ear piercing sound is meant to show that the signal was sent out when sunlight hits it for the first time since it was buried there. The idea being that only when man got to the moon, was able to detect the object underground and then dig it up would it be able to make the next evolutionary jump.

Imagine seeing this one year before we sent a man to the moon yeah you might think Kubrick did it

HAL's monologue is brilliant. His death scene is actually very touching.

A generational, transcendent cinematic achievement. Genre-defining, medium-defying

Saw this in the theatre when a sophomore in college. Many people walked out after the slow, slow beginning. Since it was an assignment for an English class, had to see it completely. Was mesmerized at every aspect but intrigued by the message. Have appreciated it more and more throughout my 77 years. Consider it a masterpiece.

Many of those psychedelic shots, especially the ones showing the birth of stars and galaxies, were filmed by dropping dyed oils into water and filming with a high speed camera. There are some fascinating documentaries showing how much of the movie was filmed.

The beginning is just an “overture” for people to take their seats, but also a great piece of score. One of my favorite films of all time.
