It’s one of those few movies out there that you can watch many times and still is great every time.
Live Die Repeat gives away the twist, Edge of Tomorrow hints at it and better underlines the struggle to get to the next day, imo. xD
17:56. After watching the entire movie, you understand this line differently. The Omega has the ability to rewind time 1 day when an Alpha dies, & they use their knowledge from the previous version of the day to fight off humans the next time they encounter them. Well, if you think about it, the very 1st time the humans launched their surprise attack on the Mimics, they probably almost won until 1 of the Alphas died, then the Omega restarted the day that 1st time. Ever since then, the humans were less & less successful at fighting the Mimics to the point where this to the Mimics could've been their 100th, their 500th, or even their 1,000th time fighting the humans, & the human invasion was soon failing as we saw here. If Cage/Cruise hadn't killed the Alpha at that 1 moment then eventually the Mimics would have been able to reach a point where they could have beaten the humans so easily that no Alpha would've died & they would have won/conquered The U.K. for good.
I've always wanted a prequel to this movie about Emily blunts character or just more from this world such a fresh take on groundhog day too
Her "anime sword" is actually a helicopter blade.
One of the reasons I like this movie is Emily Blunt (despite the FMB moniker) gets to just be an action hero. She's straight to the point, demands respect and receives respect based on the work she has done. There's no pussy-footing around. No babying her character in any way. And instead of sexualising her, you are consistently shown her strength in multiple ways. All things you typically get with male character without question. It's great to see.

I tried to rationalize Rita's decision to take the helicopter while watching this with you guys and came to this. Toms has been here before potentially countless times as far as Rita is concerned, and the ONLY REASON he isn't moving forward is to save her. He's literally risking losing the power each attempt to save her rather than complete the mission. The world may have been saved already, and Rita is comfortable if she ends in this moment in the course of that happening. Toms is literally holding the plot back, holding saving the world back for her, taking a wild risk with a very crucial and sensitive power. Who knows how many times they've not taken the helicopter, and she still dies? If he knew of a way to save her, they'd have won by now. He wouldn't be lying to her in a shed. He literally won't attempt to save the world, to continue without her, because he knows if he succeeds, she'll be dead. She's pretty much right, he's being selfish, and she knows exactly what he's feeling, which is why she's insisting he has to make the same decision she did with Hendricks, leaving him behind. P.S. the reason Tom made it without her is because they laid the trap. They've learned of the chopper, and they're letting him take it, but they wanted her out of the picture, and Toms relents, giving her up for the greater good, but manages to escape their trap with new information for a new plan.
Emily’s and Tom’s character have different trajectories. Tom hardens, and Emily softens.
I like the honesty of admitting this is not actually a first watch. Honesty from movie review/watch along on youtube are very rare
