r/AITA My Friend is So Stinky She Makes People Barf
Navigating Extreme Odor, Family Boycotts Over Photos, and Abusive Sibling Safety
Learn how three individuals navigated extreme social friction—from persistent, nauseating body odor to demanding photo removals and confronting dangerous family situations—and how the judiciary ultimately judged their actions.
Short Summary
- A college student violently reacted to a friend's extreme, persistent body odor after gentle attempts at correction failed.
- A young professional refused to alter her flexible healthcare schedule to accommodate her brother's family's temporary housing crisis.
- A homeowner faced an ultimatum to remove photos of her son's ex-partner or risk losing contact with that side of the family. This episode dissects the boundaries of personal space, familial obligation, and child safety when conflicts escalate publicly or privately based on the Reddit forum r/ami the butthole.

Edit: SHE HAS A FIANCÉ??? Story 1 is quite literally my worst nightmare, jesus christ... I've got pretty bad depression so it makes the basic stuff pretty hard but I can't imagine being so unaware of yourself and the affect is has on people...
For the last story the parents get 5/5 in my opinion. They are knowingly allowing their daughter to harm their other child, as well as others and do nothing to get help. Their daughter lost a chunk of hair and they told her to lie to the doctor about it.
Rose is lazy. Walk the damned kid to school.
100% 5/5 for the last one. The parents KNEW they would be reported if the daughter told the truth. To coach her into lying was just to protect the sister.
I don’t think the smell is a condition. The friend literally said “my mom doesn’t remind me and I forget”. OP also said that her hair is always visibly greasy. Based on the information given, I think she just literally never showers unless someone reminds her to.
Story 4: They straight up told OP to lie to a doctor about the situation, just to "protect" the violent sibling, that's an EASY 5/5, OP needs to get out of there as soon as she can
Fourth Story, NTA: OP's parents are failures. To protect one child, they allow the other to suffer contant abuse. Here's a great idea: get the 17 year old professional help. Get her medicated. Rather than do that, OP's parents refuse to discipline OP's sister, make OP lie to doctors when her sister absues OP, and refuses to have her get sent for treatment in fear of her dying. OP's sister is on the road to killing OP and other people if she doesn’t get help. OP's parents are terrible parents
The parents in the last story saying she could die if she doesn’t receive the right care, she’s not getting any care so how is that any better for her or anyone around her
Last story: I know this isn’t really the case, but if OP’s sister does end up killing her, then that just makes the parents accomplices for not getting the sister help. They are terrible parents.
we do no negotiate with terrorists and that was the perfect response. and what kind of monster takes her jealousy out on a little kid? why is he still with her?!
