Description

The current federal minimum wage for tipped workers is $2.13 and has not increased since 2009. Meanwhile, disabled employees can legally be paid less than their non-disabled counterparts, earning as little as 25 cents per hour. Host Roy Wood Jr. sits down with Daily Show researcher Stephanie O. and the President of One Fair Wage, Saru Jayaraman to discuss how the subminimum wage is legal, how tipping is a legacy of slavery, why restaurant workers aren’t running back to their jobs after the pandemic, and how the “other” NRA, the National Restaurant Association is the biggest obstacle to raising the minimum wage. #DailyShow #Comedy #Podcast Head to One Fair Wage to learn more about their work, join organized protests and continue the fight for fair wages: https://onefairwage.site/ Watch the original segment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAtjGY9vQRA&t Follow Beyond the Scenes from The Daily Show: Watch full podcast episodes: dailyshow.com/beyond Listen wherever you get your podcasts: http://podcasts.iheartradio.com/5VF7TkWF?sid=soc Subscribe to The Daily Show: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwWh... Seriously, thank you. This subject holds our country back and punishes the workers who are foundational to our economy.

TIPS SHOULD BE A GIFT, NOT A WAGE!

Thank you for talking about and using your platform to talk about sub minimum wage for people with disabilities. People with disabilities get paid pennies for the same work as everyone else there is a lot to go in the disabilities rights movement and this is one major issue to fixing that

as a disabled person who has been watching this show for a number of years THANK YOU! so many people do not realize the oppression (ableism) that disabled folk face, and at worst think people are just being mean to us. but like any other marginalized group, we face social and systemic oppression based on the false idea that we are less than. so thank you for covering this topic and including us

I have a disabled niece who works for a large company who will remain nameless (but many hold responsible for the death of small business/main street). Despite working as hard and as well as any non-disabled person in her job, she is paid less, gets less benefits, and is exposed to worse working conditions, It angers me that it's legal to treat anyone as though they are less human/deserving.

One of the morals of this podcast is to basically treat restaurant workers like regular full-time employees at any other job sector market in the US. #86 #BOF #HOF #mothersdaymaddness

I don't understand why Roy Wood, Jr. hasn't been a guest host to see how he would carry the show. My money is on Mr. Wood.

If a tip is expected to pay your workers, then it's not a tip....
