Description

“Our character is the essential identity of us as people and us as a nation, and we’ve let it erode.” Retired four-star general who served 34 years in the U.S. Army, General Stanley McChrystal, sits down with Jon Stewart to discuss his book "On Character: Choices that Define a Life." They talk about leading a national conversation on character, employing empathy in war to negotiate with ideological warriors and mercenaries, what upset him most about Defense Sec. Pete Hegseth’s Signal chat leak, and how his wife taught him to live “with no use for the rear view mirror.” #DailyShow #GenStanleyMcChrystal #Character #JonStewart Subscribe to The Daily Show: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwWhs_6x42TyRM4Wstoq8HA/?sub_confirmation=1 Follow The Daily Show: Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheDailyShow Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thedailyshow Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thedailyshow Stream full episodes of The Daily Show on Paramount+: http://www.paramountplus.com/thedailyshow Follow Comedy Central: Twitter: https://twitter.com/ComedyCentral Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ComedyCentral Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/comedycentral About The Daily Show: Jon Stewart and The Best F**king News Team host The Daily Show, an Emmy and Peabody Award-winning program analyzing the biggest stories in news, politics, and culture through a sharp, satirical lens. America has prioritized Wealth, Fame, and Power over Character.

The character of this man and Jon Stewart are so far and above any single soul in this current government. I so miss sanity, kindness, honesty, acceptance… all traits so really very simple if you GIVE A DAM ABOUT ANY OTHER THING THAN YOU!!!!

No, Jon. It's not "basic cable." It's YouTube. It's FB Reels. It's Insta. And you are a born leader, with tons of integrity.

Thank you for having him on. I am a scoutmaster with a troop of 62 boys. Every meeting ends with a Scoutmaster Minute that is something to give the scouts something to think about for the week. This clip has given me a great idea for one. ❤

A powerful reminder that character is not a luxury, it’s a necessity. Thank you, General McChrystal, for advancing a conversation the world urgently needs in this moment. We will be sharing your interviews and clips with our community as we build a movement around how character isn’t just built in moments of crisis, but in the small, often unseen choices we make every day, in how we lead, how we teach parent, how we teach, how we show up for one another. We’re grateful to see momentum around this issue taking root across generations and sectors. The stakes couldn’t be higher and the need for moral clarity, deeper.

He’s right. We’ve lost the shared national sense of “character.” I remember telling my daughters when they were very young, that they each needed to think deeply & decide what kind of person they wanted to be. It had a bigger impact than I expected. I was a military mom & had to be away a lot, which often broke my heart. But I never worried about either of them getting in trouble - they had decided early to be problem solvers & try to make the world a better place. I couldn’t ask for more. Children are wise when we give them people to look up to & empower them to shape their own character.

I watched this twice. Such an important conversation. We need to agree on a basic set of values otherwise chaos wins.
