I am ALWAYS team kids. I was the child in two very messy divorce cases (one at 3 and the other at 11), and have come to understand that custody is not as simple as a 50/50 time split. However, when Jolie says that the courts aren’t taking the kids’ opinions into consideration, I really want to see the court’s filings on the matter. Because the courts didn’t take my feelings 100% into consideration either, and I’m so happy for that. Whether intentional or not, my mother made her feelings about my father very clear, and eventually I adopted those feelings as my own and wanted nothing to do with him, even crying when it was time for him to pick me up. The court appointed a Guardian Ad Litem to represent me, so I wouldn’t be traumatized by having to pick between my parents. The guardian advocated what she believed was in my best interest, conducted multiple interviews (I thought we were just coloring) and home visits. She believed that I would benefit from having a relationship with my father, and I’m so happy that that was her conclusion. Obviously DV claims come into play here, but unless there are other instances, this doesn’t read as Pitt having a “history” of violence. It sounds like a turning point for Pitt and his alcohol use, and a breaking point for Jolie (I imagine because it was in front of the kids, which I understand). I am still much closer to my mom, but if the court had just taken me at my word that I never wanted to see my dad again, I would have had so much more trauma to be worked through, and I don’t even want to imagine what it would have been like for my dad. But if the Depp/Heard trial has taught me anything, it’s to hear both sides out, see the receipts (or lack thereof) and to see their actions since the event (like Pitt becoming sober) Sorry for the rant! Thank you for you amazing coverage as always, and giving this case the delicacy and grace it needs!

Sorry, I am confused about her statement that her divorce is a human rights issue - Is it not Angelina who keeps continuing her nearly five-years-long child custody fight against Brad Pitt? Was it not Angie who almost lost custody as she chose not to comply with the court mandate to allow Brad to see their children? Was it not Angie the court accused of parent alienation, and she needs to be careful? When Brad was trying to have more time with his kids, has it not been clear that Angie has done everything possible to prevent this? Experts state it is traumatic for children and teenagers to testify in divorce cases, involving sharing personal information and feeling as though they are testifying “for” one parent and “against” the other. Yet she publically keeps stating her kids want to testify against their dad? Sorry, no one can know for sure that she hasn’t brainwashed the kids now. Has it not been Angie who has publically dragged Brad’s name through the mud as a father - yet Brad has not reciprocated? So who is really causing her children’s human rights issue in this divorce?

Emily, I value how well you present information and facts, and highlight the interesting legal issues. When you feel biased you are clear about it, and why. That is much appreciated in cases like this one where people have passionately made up their minds based on tabloid impressions. Be well.

IMO it looks like she’s mirroring her own childhood. She wants Brad in jail or charged. She should think about her children and their mental health how can all this be good for them.

The bigger question is why this sudden flood of information/Bad PR ? Why now? He must have a project up or something shes trying to tank because this looks like a concerted effort ...everyday theres a different news article about an incident over half a decade ago? Whats the urgency and why does the general public need to know this?

As much as I despised my X for all the crap that went on between us. I never thought it smart to share my animosity with my 4 kids! Now that they are grown and have kids of their own, each of them thanked me for not bad mouthing their father!! I wanted them mentally healthy so I refrained from putting on them the burden of my bad marriage! They paid enough just from being from a broken home!!

My mother never married my father. They were both teenagers when I was born. I am not entirely certain of the situation and I will refrain from passing too much judgment but what I will say is this: I hope Angelina is prepared for the consequences of whatever it is that she is doing. My father wasn’t the best parent. He still is an alcoholic however he was never abusive towards me. He never yelled at me, never hit me, nothing like that. My mother made sure that I despised my father. Now guess which parent WAS abusive? Yes, my mother was the abusive one. She didn’t just alienate me from my dad, she alienated me from most of our family with her various comments and telling me that they would never love me as much as she does. I have something of a relationship with my father and his immediate family and no contact with my mother. I do not like the woman because of everything that she did. I’m not saying Brad Pitt didn’t cause problems, he probably did but alienating the children from him now that he’s sober, isn’t going to work out well. I just hope she’s prepared for the consequences that will most definitely come up from her decisions.

It's not like she's unable to get mental health care for her kids!! This is all for show at this point. Just my feelings. She's causing even more harm to her kids by doing this!!!
