Centenarians I have seen in interviews had no exercise routine. But they would get up and play with great-great grandchildren, then sit, then walk the dog, then sit for hours, then trim the rose bushes, as examples of short bursts of minimal activity throughout the day. All said this was a lifestyle and only activities done. Housework and "puttering" were other activities outside their work lives.

When I was a young woman, there were people frustrated as to why I ate so much, was "lazy," and stayed skinny. Then my college roommate said, "She is never still. Look at her leg!" Sure enough, I was tapping my foot or shaking my leg. I didn't even notice until she said something. It just seemed natural, even while studying.
