I happen to be involved in that research and have been from the beginning (as well as the 536 AD volcanic eruption and the Justinian Plague). Thank you for your balanced and professional presentation. It's rare to be impressed on Youtube, but you definitely impress me.
The Plague of Justinian, which arrived in Constantinople on grain ships from Egypt in 541, came on the heels of a volcanic winter following an eruption in 536.
And Venice invented quarantine for returning crews. They were kept on offshore islands for 40 (quarantina) days before re entering the city.
Occasionally I feel the inclination to tell you that you are awesome. Heart, enthusiasm, research and delivery. I am sure I speak for many when I say thank you for who you are and what you are, Anton. The good you do is measured in tens of thousands of lives inspired. What a legacy. Thanks you.
I watched a documentary recently on yersinia pestis immunity in Northern European populations and the genetics behind this immunity. one of the discoveries covered was that descendants of those who had achieved immunity to the black plague were also immune to hiv infection 🤔 the link was discovered in the early 90s when genealogy trees were created for people who remained uninfected with hiv despite repeated exposure from their infected partners
This was such an interesting way to connect economics, climate and a pandemic. I never could have imagined it. Thanks for the historical context; it greatly enriched the experience. Hope know more about this in the future!!!
I kinda take solace in the fact most of civilization could be removed by a giant rock fart.
History, science, graphs...bloody awesome! Thanks, Anton :)
Thanks, Anton. Cross fertilization among different sciences is an important accelerator of knowledge. It has been growing more and more frequent during my lifetime, and we are all better off for it.
Anton, thank you so much for narrating your own videos, and including footage of yourself doing so. I am so tired of videos narrated by AI, from hidden creators, that leave most of their "research" and writing to AI, without ever checking to make sure its staying factual. I appreciate your curiosity, work, and the resulting channel so much!
