Description

Attorneys Brian Kabateck and Shant Karnikian break down how the Trump administration is gutting antitrust enforcement and what it means for American consumers. The centerpiece is the $14 billion HP Enterprise/Juniper Networks merger, which the DOJ's own antitrust division sued to block — until HPE's lobbyists went over the heads of career lawyers straight to the White House and cut a sweetheart deal so weak that the head of the antitrust division and her top deputies were sidelined and eventually pushed out. A coalition of 13 state attorneys general is now asking a federal judge to reject the settlement under the Tunney Act, the post-Watergate law designed to prevent exactly this kind of corporate influence peddling. And it's not just HP — the administration walked away from the Live Nation/Ticketmaster breakup lawsuit and killed the Biden-era case against Adobe over deceptive subscription cancellation practices. Brian and Shant walk through the history of antitrust law, why competition enforcement should be bipartisan, and how a president who campaigned as a populist keeps making everything more expensive for the people who voted for him. They want no regulators, no regulations. Unbelievably greedy money-mongers.

In my time (I'm 84), the GOP has always been the party of privilege and wealth, while Dems have (imperfectly) been the party of workers and the middle class. Teddy Roosevelt, a Republican, was probably the last of his party to try reining in excesses of business and the rich. What we see now is greed unleashed, hardly masking its motives. Those who claim the parties are little different are just ignorant, reductive, simplistic; denying the still vast gap in intention and action. The economy is almost always better under Dems, yet dummies still see the GOP as "better on economics." This is ignorance. Vote Dem or suffer.

It's pay for play. Trump should have a menu board with the price of his bribes mounted outside the White House door. It will save so much time negotiating the "gifts".

The middle class is the economy that makes the dollar stable and the world currency! Anti-trust supports our stability and the world’s stability! We know what to do.🚴🏼‍♂️ This will bring back the USA’s greatness! We know what we have to do! Just do it! 😀

Thanks for the update. We need the middle class to rise again. Tax the rich people and corporations appropriately. The government is supposed to serve the people. That means *MANAGED* capitalism, not rampant unlimited greed. The Nordic states know how to do it. Why doesn't the US?

This government doesn’t care about hurting the people! They care about their own interests.

I’m turning 60 this month. When I was in high school, we could afford to buy concert tickets, & to travel for shows. I can hardly afford them myself now. We’ve destroyed so much for the younger generations. We had cheap places to gather, like arcades, water slides, skating rinks, movie theaters, putt putt, etc., woods we explored that have been plowed down, waterways where we fished & crabbed (that are no longer free or are inaccessible…no longer affordable to live nearby)…AND I never worried I might be killed while doing these things. I also always knew Russia was the enemy. I am saddened
