Writing a summary of this just incase if you dont have 2 hours • Insulin controls fat storage, not calories alone • High insulin = fat locked in • Sugar spikes insulin, but insulin is the real problem • Insulin resistance causes weight gain • Frequent eating keeps insulin high • Snacking slows fat loss • Carbs raise insulin more than fat • Protein raises insulin least and improves satiety • Healthy fats don’t spike insulin • Intermittent fasting lowers insulin • Fasting helps access stored fat • Strength training improves insulin sensitivity • Muscle acts as a glucose sink • Cardio alone is less effective • Ultra-processed foods worsen insulin resistance • Liquid calories spike insulin fast • Sleep deprivation increases insulin resistance • Stress raises insulin via cortisol • Type 2 diabetes is insulin driven • Obesity is hormonal, not willpower • Weight-loss drugs don’t fix insulin resistance • Fix insulin → fat loss becomes easier

I first tried keto about 5 years ago, found it to be super easy, dropped 20lbs in 2 months and then thought "oh yeah, I can now go back to my regular way of eating, just eat less". Yeah, no. I've gained all the weight back and meandered around like that for over three years, until I decided to get back on track. For real, this time. I've been strict keto since late July 2025 and have dropped 40lbs in that time, as a 39 yo woman. I haven't been this weight since my 20s. My energy levels are up, my sleep is deep, there's no brain-fog, I fast easily, the list goes on. But I had to come to terms with the fact that I am a sugar addict, plain and simple. One bite of candy can throw me off for weeks. Is it like that for everyone? Probably not. But I bet a lot of people are highly addicted to refined sugar and are unaware of it. Once you are and you see the amount of sh*t that gets put into all our food, it's mind-blowing. Don't be afraid of the cravings, they go away fast. Keep your electrolytes up and there won't be keto-flu (at least in my experience). Prepare for your social life to tank a bit, which is probably overall the hardest part. People don't understand, they think this is unhealthy. You'll have to explain it many, many times with a lot of love and even more patience. As your weight drops and you feel better, some people might wanna try to lure you into some indulgences. Don't. They're not worth it. Instead, prepare your own keto-friendly desserts and bring those to birthday parties, or whatever. You don't have to miss out, you just have to structure a bit more. Grocery shopping will be a breeze, because most of the isles are not for you anymore. You might even save a lot of money, because eating out is a bit of a hassle, I'm not gonna lie. Still, taking everything into account, I haven't felt better in a long time and I intend to keep it that way, creating the best version of me that I can possibly be, to step into my 40's this year. A special "Thank you" to Dr. Bikman, Dr. Pelz, Dr. Fung, Dr. Berry, Dr. Boz for sharing their knowledge with us. And thank you Steven and the whole DOAC Team for giving these guests a platform to reach even more people.

I started keto on 12/28/25 and I kid you not, all of my severe joint pain is GONE, my brain fog is gone, my fatigue is gone and crazily enough—my heel spur no longer hurts whatsoever! My heel spur was so bad I could barely walk on my left food and I was going to have to have surgery to fix the problem. I can now go on walks again with my dog and I feel like a brand new human! I wrote this comment only for the off chance that someone else suffering from plantar fasciitis or heel spurs can see that this nutrition plan can help give you your physical life back.

"My name is Débora Balthazar. I live in Brazil and, yes, I am Brazilian. I want to say that I am a nutrition student and your program has helped me much more than I could have ever imagined. In some 'strange' way, you saved my life and my family's life. I used to be sick, but not anymore. I help my mother a lot, who is diabetic. As a nutrition student, I am grateful for your program; Brazilian universities do not teach us this way. Here, the population is getting sicker and sicker. I hope that one day I can help people just as you do."

12 years keto. I’ve tip toed away a couple of days here and there and have always regretted it. If you enjoy energy and being pain free and mentally sound and excited about your life keto is absolutely sustainable. My bloodwork is ELITE! 53 yrs old F, 5 ft tall 117 lbs. alc 4.6, BP 90/60, visceral fat 4 … in the best shape of my life. 12 yrs ago I was 40 yrs old, morbidly obese at 5 ft 235 lbs. I can’t imagine what my quality of life would be like at 53 if I didn’t make the change.

Ben is the epitome of how a man and a scientist should be. Knowledgeable enough to challenge the narrative, but humble enough to acknowledge that he is still an observer and a learner in this world. Thanks Steven... this podcast is part of my self-improvement journey and I love all of your conversations, whether i agree with the guests or not. ❤️

For anyone who is having a problem regulating cravings, I have found success with Apple cider vinegar (1-2 Tbsp) in 12-26 oz of water. I use the big plastic cups some hospitals give out after a stay. The ACV is said to help regulate glucose levels, but after you get used to the taste, there is enough flavor in it to reduce the need for foods heavy in carbs that generally carry a sweeter flavor. With its help I can stop eating at 6 PM and do not need to eat (feel hunger) until noon the next day, allowing me to intermittent fast for 18 hrs or more.
