RIP Anton Yelchin (1989 - 2016)
R.I.P. LEONARD NIMOY (1931-2015).
34:49 Kirk says "That's a good choice" because it's the same song he played when he stole his step-father's antique Corvette as a child. 'Sabotage' by Beastie Boys.
"I love re-routing power. It always works." - A true Trekkie.
Fun Fact: This movie was written by Simon Pegg, aka Scotty in this movie.
Such a gut punch at the end when Kirk says "to absent friends" and the camera cuts to the group with Anton... R.I.P. Anton. :(
I hope you watched all the credits to see the dedications to Leonard Nimoy and Anton Yelchin. Nimoy's death wasn't a surprise. He was elderly and suffering from COPD brought on by decades of heavy smoking. He became an anti-smoking crusader toward the end of his life -- a campaign I support. Yelchin's death, however, was a shocker. Weeks before _Beyond_ was set to release, Yelchin died when his SUV slipped out of gear after he parked it and went to get his mail. The truck pinned him to his mailbox (which was a large, brick-encased structure) and crushed him. Everyone who knew him said he was poised to become a breakout star. I feel especially bad for his parents, as he was their only child.
If you like Star Trek you are a Trekker, period. Nobody gets to judge how โrealโ your fandom is. Iโve loved Star Trek all my life and Iโm glad it brings you joy, too.
Ambassador Spock's passing was a tribute to Leonard Nimoy who passed shortly before the film was released. That scene really hit the audience hard coming so soon after Nimoy's death.
