I’m hiking the Appalachian trail and your podcasts are what keep me going on rainy days ❤
This idea of lowering your threshold for happiness/satisfaction could not be more true. I just went through basic military training (Air Force boot camp) as an 18 year old and I can definitely tell you that I am now happier with less. I lived quite the cushy life. Protective parents. Lived in the suburbs. Much of an inside person with many of the problems that the video listed. Having my phone being taken away, being restricted to blander foods, marching every single place I would go, being restricted in when I could talk and how expressive I could be. My freedoms/liberties I previously had before BMT were numerous in plenty and having them restricted made me realize how easy I had it. By no means is Air Force BMT hard. It may prove to have its challenges, but it definitely introduced me to a different lifestyle that I have learned to jive with. One with less phone time, simpler food, more desire to exercise, a great appreciation for the little extra I get apart from necessities. If you bothered to read all of this, I hope that you also take the time to take away some of the conveniences in your life. The things you have abundance of. So that you can learn to appreciate less and ultimately be happier with more. Or as Andrew would put it, lowering your comfort threshold.

Can confirm that long walks with significant others is very beneficial for strengthening relationships.
Thank you for never gatekeeping knowledge Andrew. I am not even exaggerating that you saved my life.
Heres a story: A few years ago I adopted a 2 mile section of road to clean, by my house here in the mountains of Colorado. I have been putting it off for some weeks now as it just was something I was not relishing doing. Today I decided to tackle half of it. And as I was walking down the hill from home to start picking up trash I decided to listen to this weeks podcast. It hit the nail on the head for me today, so relevant to what I was doing. Turns out, I did the entire section and listened for almost 2 hours. I so appreciate the conversation between the two of you and how I understand doing the hard things is often the best thing. Thanks for another great episode!
When you have fewer problems, people are not more satisfied. They lower the bar of what they consider a problem. - that hit hard
Absolutely, Dr. Huberman is a blessing. In a world where so many try to scam others, he’s out here making a real difference. Thank you, Dr. Huberman!
Michael Easter is a beacon of hope in a messed up society. My grocery store is only about a mile away, but I always walk and carry everything home in re-useable cloth bags + a backpack. The number of people I pass who are doing the same is usually 0, yet I see dozens of cars. At the airport I always view stairs as a great opportunity to pick up my luggage and get in 30 seconds of activity as I haul it up. I usually get to the top faster than everyone standing on the escalator staring at their cell phone. If I had to pick a single book that all of humanity had to read, I think it would be "The Comfort Crisis."
2024 I drive 3,547 miles, no music or podcasts for 23 days. I attended a family wedding, visited 4 of my son's USMC buddies, (he passed in '04). It was a fabulous experience! Silence is golden 💜
