My relationship with my wife of going on 49 years is beyond amazing. Prior to our meeting I was and still am an experienced Vietnam combat veteran. After civilian retiring like many veterans my combat ptsd came to the surface. I’ve had 4 years of VA. PTSD counseling and through the toughest of times for me and her both she has stood by me at all times. From our first date that the magic began to today the magic still exists. We are in our 70’s now and still honor and respect each other. Our unwritten plan is….. I will take care of me for you if you will take care of you for me. Yes… I am boasting😃😃😃
Enjoyed this. I have been married for 52 years next month. One of the tools I have discovered for better communication is asking the question “What did you hear me say” or “Could you repeat that please”. Not only because of age related hearing loss but also because we are often not aware that the other person’s attention is otherwise occupied. For example they are listening to a podcast with ear buds so as not to disturb the other person. What I have discovered is not only does it give processing space but that our thinking goes in different directions.
Not planning on being or having a partner at this point but just listening to have knowledge to be a better parent, friend and lover to myself.
"is it kind, is it true, is it useful" 1:00:37 This is gold
“We are not afraid of death , we are afraid of not having lived.” Such an eye opening statement. Such a great conversation. Thank you❤
"You don't need to move on, you need to move forward." That's so true, but so difficult when you will always deeply love the person and feel regretful about not staying together and/or doing the right things when the opportunity was there.
I’m so lucky to have found my girl. She was the first person i had to roll with when i showed up to a jujitsu class taught by a Portuguese speaking brazilian thinking i showed up to an English speaking kick boxing class. 6 years later and we’ve traveled the country competing in tournaments together and are both bad ass purple belts now. I couldn’t have imagined this life before the huberman lab podcast 💚💚💚
