I agree with the fact that all courts should stream court, it 100% will be a step toward restoring faith in our justice system. As someone who has never been in trouble I like watching judges who stream to learn about court procedure and laws of this country.

I don't believe for one minute Murdaugh had an opioid addiction. There is no way you 1. survive a $50k/wk or even /mth habit, or 2. get clean in just a few weeks of rehab, particularly when you have a habit like his supposed one. I also don't believe there is any way he could function with an addiction like the one his expenditure would provide....and do so undetected for so long to boot. As to the missing money....I don't believe for a minute there isn't a lot of money cleverly hidden 'out there'. As you say Emily, there is no way Dick and Jim are working for nothing. As to being done with Murdaugh....yep, so am I...but I'm no quitter. I'll keep watching while there is more going on to report. Finally, a pox on Ms Becky for muddying the waters of the murder conviction with her stupid and unprofessional behavior. I don't doubt if the case is reheard that Murdaugh won't be convicted again, but the added expense of running this trial again and the burden that puts on the community and state of South Carolina is just wrong.
So I love being a law nerd but I am always going to be a physics nerd first and there actually is good reason for Pluto not to be a planet! If you want a longer but much more interesting and well written explanation read “How I killed Pluto and Why it had it coming”. The short explanation is that an Astronomer discovered another planet, Eris, like object that had a similar orbit to Pluto. At the time we thought Eris was bigger than Pluto so he had a pretty good case for there being another planet. But most people were like “no no more planets”. Then he was like “well any reason you give for Eris not being a planet can apply to Pluto”. And suddenly we had a new category for planets called Dwarf Planets and Pluto lost its normal planet status. We later discovered that Eris is slightly smaller than Pluto but not small enough to make any of the aforementioned arguments invalid. 🌈the more you know🌈
Thoughts on the attorney theft vs other theft: there's insurance for cars, homes, etc. There isn't insurance for your attorney stealing money from you..
I Just finished serving on a month long federal double jury case and I couldn't help but think of you Emily and wondered what you'd think of the trial. It's not a huge SM spicy kind of case but it was so insightful and was grateful to everyone at the courthouse who made the trial bearable. So thank you for all you do.
I do survey research for a living! I don’t work in this field but I do see a few limitations with the methodology that make me hesitant to use the findings especially for a trial. 1. Where are they getting phone numbers from? This isn’t really a limitation, but it is important to know to assess the randomness of the sample. Most people have cell phones and many are on do not call lists so any sampling using phone contacts would have some bias. 2. A 1% sample size is very small and I wouldn’t be confident with the results with such a small sample. 3. It’s all moot anyway because by the time the results can be used the survey would need to be done again for exactly the reasons Emily has already mentioned.
It totally burns my butt is he went out for some of to these clients to get them to file a suit and give them a hope and something that will alleviate the burden of money and charge them for his time and then steal the proceeds. It is so sad that there were clients who never went looking to get into years of court and to promise to get them the compensation for suffering but made another layer of pain they never asked for. So sick.
