One of the best James video genres is "James puts something in his mouth and immediately breaks out in laughter because it's so terrible."

At 13:20 is how I imagine James Hoffman would react if I were to make him a cup of coffee. Surprise, hysterical laughter, raspy "that's so bad", followed by a save of face and somewhat serious "that's not to my taste."

I think those Japanese ones in the beginning that you didn't like because they tasted phenolic were actually coffee *tea* candies (based on the packaging) 珈琲茶飴 - literally "coffee tea candy". Likely, coffee mixed with hōjicha. Personally, I really like the bitter leafy quality of those but I can completely understand why they wouldn't pass the test.

There is not much better in the world than seeing James Hoffmann joyously say “that’s so bad!”

The pocket coffee reaction was hilarious! but seriously, the biting was a mistake. I have several times did the old trick of carefully biting one side off just to drink the coffee and then eat the chocolate and doing that you realize that the coffee is way more bitter than it should be and the chocolate is extremely sweet. It is meant to be eaten as a single bite to let both complement each other. try it, even off camera, the experience is way better that way.

I'm watching this with a Kopiko in my mouth, and a tear in the corner of my eye.

Does anyone else have little interest in coffee but find watching James to be a gentle, healing salve when feeling low?
