Description

Today is a fun look at a homemade prototype that shows exciting promise for the future of the Moka Pot. It also has an entirely serious explanation of what a PID controller is. Quick note also, for the quirks. Since this concept was sent to @James i worked on a bigger moka (4 cup) and a heater builtin the base (that bialetti has a heater glued to the bottom). That way heats faster and the pid is more responsive. Also, more water is more stable since It can absorb more energy (volume per surface ratio) Since then the pid has been tuned Up for the bigger moka (his settings were for the new one, not the one that was used in the video, maybe that made It a bit less accurate) I've been working on a more professional version with a thermocouple right at the exit of the coffee, and a scale... To me the scale was overcomplicating the whole thing but could work. The coffee bed temp for me is a plus.

First a stop motion intro and then a costumed story time skit? I must be at the cinema

As an electrical engineering student interested in controls I did not expect to get a PID controller lesson in this video

I love the MocaBot and would 100% fund a a Kickstarter for this.

"Traditional Italian coffee experience" is a very kind way to say it.

I really enjoy when James is genuinely impressed by someone elses' work, in that he always gives that "someone else" praise.

As a PID controller myself I didn’t expect to find my biographical note in a James Hoffman video about coffee on my lunch break.

I love the analogue aspect of the MokaPot, but I would also be interested in a product like this. There's definitively a market for it!
