Main downside for me is I can only have one cup a day. It doesn’t leave mushroom for anything else…

Mycologist here! You're spot on that we need more studies on the long term effects of all of these, especially Lion's Mane since the health claims feels more vibe based than anything. That having been said it is pretty solid evidence that eating a few portions of mushrooms per week does have long term benefits on our mental health; but it is not clear if that is because the people that already eat mushrooms have different lifestyles than the average person or if its the mushrooms themselves. If nothing else just add some mushrooms to your diets because they're delicious and a great source of minerals, vitamins and fiber. And you will get a lot more of the stuff by buying them fresh instead of ground up in a coffee. :)

Watching James taste even slightly unpleasant things is why I paid my internet bill this month.

It was never a spit cup, it was a comfort mug for James tiptoeing into new less-coffee territory.

I've done some work for my university developing a "functional mushroom beverage", and we actually had some interesting flavors brewing roasted mushroom powder blended in a latte or strained into a carbonated cold brew. Without sugar, they had an actually interesting flavor. It has a funky chocolaty flavor with some natural sweetness of lionsmane, bitternes from reishi and savouryness from cordyceps. And we grow the mushrooms in spent coffee grounds, that was the point

Sweden here: Although you would be allowed to call it a smörgåsbord of mushrooms it wouldn't technically be considered diverse enough to be recognizable to most people as a smörgåsbord.

I’ve noticed mushroom coffee is super expensive and you don’t get a lot of mushrooms for the money. You’d be sooo much better off just sautéing mushrooms with your eggs in the morning and still drinking your coffee. Chaga is a fantastic fungus and has crazy health benefits. However you’re not supposed to turn it into a powder. You steep a whole big chunk of chaga overnight. That’s your tea. I think most of these companies are just doing something trendy and therefore making a pile of money off of little pouches of basically dirt. So just eat mushrooms!

James, I appreciate how considerately you talk about taste in your videos! People are so quick to pass judgment on a flavor or experience they don't enjoy, so it's really lovely that you make an effort to not do that.
