I'm a 20,000 hour airline pilot. It's a technical job - but also pretty isolating. You spend long periods of time with just one person, so you not only need to be technical, but also a bit introverted. Happy to stare out of a window for hours, sharing only a few words, but also highly disciplined to do the job exactly - no short cuts. No checklists from memory. That's why the job is usually done by boring older men. Nerds, not Hipsters.
Trying to have a quota system based on anything but competence is insane. Pure insanity.
I'm a black man and I disapprove of this methold. I don't give a damn who's in the cockpit; it needs to be the best qualified pilot regardless of sex or ethnicity. I'm jus' tryin' to step off that plane the same damn way I boarded it!

I’m a retired Black airline Captain and former military jet instructor-this DEI agenda will make airlines unsafe. When you make an attempt to [make] qualified people of a certain race or gender-you will end up lowering standards. Here is how they trick the public. What the airlines will not say or do is lower the requirement which are FAA driven. He’s the sleight of hand…it is done in the application of those requirements. For example, I had a very close former Navy buddy who was a senior instructor at a major airline-an airline that [may have] been mentioned in this podcast. The airline gave a Fleet Captain job to a five year female to be the head of the B757/767 Fleet based at their training center. My friend and another senior instructor resigned from the training center when they discovered this female B757/767 Fleet Captain was changing grades to prevent failures. He informed me that after the confrontation/m and higher up management involved, her excuse was that she was worried about the fleet’s efficiency (failure ratio). In the old days, if a ‘new hire’ failed their first check ride (on probation) the new hire received [maybe one] additional chance after this first simulator check ride-depending on the circumstances. Now they get multiple chances to pass. This is how you get around the public scrutiny. The airlines are desperate for pilots which is a separate issue from an airline wanting to replace 50% of white male pilots just because they are white. I will close with this-yes in the past the hiring process at airlines had biased white guys doing the hiring. [BUT] this is not the reason or excuse for the Black Community to not produce black individuals [interested] in the sciences, engineering or aerodynamics. I am AGAINST QUOTAS and no one [deserves] anything. A merit based system is the only way.
Advice: Stop flying. These are total idiots in the air.
