I do have enough free time after work (I’m single) but my job is so exhausting that I have nothing left in my body to do something for myself.
Creating this timestamp cause I usually come back to the rules like some habit 😂 09:29 - Bedtime 20:55 - Plan on Fridays 36:15 - Move by 3 PM 47:07 - 3 Times a Week is a Habit 51:22 - Create a Backup Slot 54:11 - One big adventure, one little adventure 1:00:06 - Take 1 night for you 1:07:06 - Give Things Less Time 1:11:16 - Effortful Before Effortless
About 8 years ago, I had had a particularly tiring week at school, and decided I needed some time out on Friday afternoon. I popped into the bookshop next to my favourite eatery and bought a book. I went to sit down in a quiet spot and ordered my favourite toastie. I read, relaxed and enjoyed some ME time for 2½ hours. And that was the start of my weekly Friday afternoon ritual... Every week, I take myself out to lunch with my book in hand. It's one of the best things I've ever done for myself! It's just a reset. Time for me to enjoy my end of the week treat! Best thing ever!
I'm a full time and I mean full 24/7/365 care giver for my wife. She is estranged from her kids (Alzheimer's scared the crap out of a lot of people) so it's just me. I get up 60 to 90 minutes before she wakes up. That is my non negotiable time. No phones, no computers, no TV, no newspapers, just me. Make coffee, and do stretches while it's brewing. I go out to the patio (in Arizona) & spend 10 minutes strarring at the mountains and sipping my coffee. The rest of the time is meditating or tai chi or reading or sometimes, all three. The rest of the day is its own beast but even then, I find 10 ro 15 minutes for me. Trust me, after 5 years of not having any me time, I won't give up my mornings.
Even a 2 hour commute has become "me time" when i listen to a good audiobook or music.
I'm too tired to do anything productive after work, so i go to bed really early and get up early to have "me time" or to tidy the house, do a load of laundry, etc It's much more enjoyable to do when I'm fresh than when I'm exhausted after work.
Use time management almost same as money management. 1. I shorten showers-8-10 mins 2. Moved closer to my work- 15 mins drive each way instead 30 to 40 mins each way 3. I sleep deep with 6 hours with yoga nidra and other deep sleep meditation 4. I find easy and healthy meal preps ahead and cook daily. Grocery list, meal plans. 5. I try to make healthy muffins and juicing for 5 days on Sunday mornings. 6. I stopped saying i am so busy, i am too tired, and I don’t have time 7. I don’t scroll or social media in the morning. Just get all the work done with full focus. Usually 4 to 5 hours all work done if i am not distracted.

Wife, mom of 4..work full time…My life is full & busy!! Time management is so crucial. I use to doom scroll, stopped! I used to go to bed as the late night revenge to have time for myself, I stopped!! I’m not saying I get right everyday but I’m so much more aware and intentional of my time than I used to be and it’s made a difference. Friday nights are my time to unwind from the busy, hectic work week…usually a soak in the tub and reading. I’ve also started rec volleyball one night a week for 2 1/2 hrs. I work out 3 -4 days a week, in the morning to accomplish something for myself at the beginning of the day. Makes me feel good!! I Love planning on Friday tip. This was so good!!
I waste like 2 hours of social media every day and today I decided to listen to Mel. I watched two of her most interesting conversations. Loving these podcast. I think I will now make a Mel day every week listening to some of theseconversations to help my growth and stop wasting time.😊
