10-1 BYU in a power 4 conference, only 1 loss to a top 10 team, and they are out…..2nd year in a row. Make it make sense.

8:59 Josh you literally said byu could drop out of the playoff if they lose their conference championship game, but then flipped the argument for Alabama even though they would have one more loss than byu? Seems inconsistent to me.

That’s precisely what happened to UGA in 2023. The only loss was against the SEC Champion… by 3 points. Dropped them out of the playoff. So yes, there is in fact a world where that would happen..

Re: Texas Tech "vaulting" to Top 4 and a playoff bye if they win out... Josh isn't paying attention to the CFP rankings. Texas Tech is already #5. If they win out and are Big-12 Conference Champions, they definitely "vault" up one spot to #4 and get the bye. There is no way that two Big 10 teams and two SEC teams stay the Top 4, given all the various scenarios (unless Texas Tech lose a game). The 2nd best SEC team will either lose their conference champ game, or not play in their conference champ game. So how does Georgia or a loser of that game stay #4 above a 12-1 Big 12 champion Texas Tech? Answer: obviously, they don't.

Ohio State seems to always drop one big game near end of year.

Can you run the scenario where byu beats tech in the big 12 conference championship game. BYU would be, hope high, and who are you knocking out? I would love for them to send a #10 ranked Alabama to Provo in December!

You finally didn't ignore North Texas. They are quite the story and should be ranked ahead of JMU. If voters watched the games rather than using their failing memories to determine their votes, North Texas would have been ranked since they beat Navy.

If SMU and Virginia take care of business. The winner of the ACC will definitely be ranked higher than any Group5 school. Cause they will have another CFP ranked opponent on their resume. I’m assuming SMU makes an appearance on the CFP rankings on Tuesday

That happened to Georgia a few years ago, where they were number 1 all year and lost the sec championship.
