Episode Idea: Josh makes stuff from the back of the Sporked freezer
just because of how insanely different the salmon ended up looking i almost think this should've been a blind test lol
Pyrex used to be made of borosilicate glass, which is highly resistant to thermal shock. They switched to soda lime glass, which is heat resistant, but less resistant to thermal shock, and thus more likely to shatter when subjected to sudden large temperature changes. So... don't do what Josh did.
The Barilla you buy in the US is actually made wholly in the US. Barilla was actually successfully sued for emphasizing the Italian-ness of their product on their packaging when none of it was actually from Italy. Thats why they redesigned the boxes and removed the italian flag and the tagline "Italy's favorite pasta"
I know this crossover may not make sense, but all I can think when these dollar tree vs. other grocery chain episodes come out is how cool it would be to get Rebecca from Dollar Tree Dinners in the kitchen with you for these challenges! She's one of the masters of dollar tree cooking and it would be so cool to see her macgyver some dollar tree food and have you all blind taste it. 😊
I think Josh is right that the amount of products should be a factor. Yes, they boil down to similar prices but bulk purchases take the upfront extra $100 (where you’re having to assume you’ll use these ingredients again), and the space they take up before you use them. At the end of the day, space is also a luxury that isn’t taken into consideration
The thing I love about this series is how practical it is. If someone was on a tight budget and trying to get into cooking, they can pick and choose which ingredients to splurge on. In this case, soy sauce and honey (both of which can be found much more affordably at a traditional grocery store or an Asian market). Everything else could’ve been from the dollar store and it would have been pretty comparable sounds like.
Gotta do Aldi vs Trader Joe’s at some point.
8:32 Let the man have his macawrongi pasta salad!
Really should get Dollar Tree Dinners on the show
