Description

We just added four new vehicles to our One-Year Road Test fleet, including a Toyota RAV4! Want to know why we bought them and how they stack up in our long-term ownership review? First up is the best-selling vehicle in America, the Toyota RAV4 hybrid, specifically a midgrade Toyota RAV4 XLE Premium. While it delivers a highly efficient 41 combined mpg, we're keeping a close eye on how its hard plastic interior materials hold up to daily wear and tear. We also added an Acura Integra Type S, which trades pure utility for pure driving fun with its turbocharged engine and crisp manual transmission. Next in line is our Subaru Outback Touring XT. Subaru completely revamped the infotainment system here, addressing our previous tech gripes with a snappy, horizontal screen layout. Combine that with a responsive turbo engine, a massive cargo area, and excellent ride comfort, and it's easy to see why the Subaru sits at the top of our midsize SUV rankings. Finally, we welcomed back a true budget champion: the Chevrolet Bolt EV. Our Chevy Bolt features an upgraded lithium-iron-phosphate battery that you can charge to 100% all the time without fear of battery degradation, unlike typical EV batteries that should rarely be charged past 80% for longevity. The Bolt smashed its EPA estimates to deliver a phenomenal 290 miles on the Edmunds EV Range Test. While the Chevy Bolt cuts some corners with a plasticky interior and stiff seating to keep costs low, it's an incredible value at less than $30,000, and the new NACS charging port (which makes it compatible with Tesla Superchargers) makes it a stellar daily commuter. I'd love to see y'all add a Camry and Accord to the fleet. The Camry is the one sedan that still continues to fly off the lots and remain in the top 5 best-sellers even in the age of SUVs. Meanwhile, the Accord used to battle the Camry in the sales standings long ago and hasn't been able to stand the test of time. I'd love to know how the Camry is still selling so well, and what the Accord did to fall so far behind. Also, a new Seltos hybrid would be cool. As compact SUVs have gotten expensive, I'd love to know if subcompact SUVs can come somewhat close in interior space, being able to take roadtrips for 4-5 people comfortably, and just overall usability.

Our garage is growing, with four new recent additions that span from an affordable, small EV, to our highest-rated midsize SUV. Are there any new cars coming soon that you'd like to see us add to the Edmunds fleet? Let us know in the comments below!

I've had the new RAV4 LE AWD since March, and I'm averaging over 42mpg with a lot of higher speed freeway driving. I'll be watching and curious to see what you all are able to achieve with it. Around town, I am seeing incredible figures. I had one trip across town that I averaged 80mpg, and I routinely see 50-60 if I have a light foot and relatively low speed cruising.

Cool to all the cars being blue. Finally something different than the standard white, black, gray, and silver.

My wish! All manufacturers switched to a 3 multifunction knob system with a display screen on each knob. Or adopt the KIA dual function button bar. And I mean all cars , trucks SUVs etc.

What stood out to me wasn't just the comparison itself but the reminder that value and price aren't always the same thing. Many people focus on what they pay today, while overlooking the costs they'll carry over the next several years. One practical lesson is to evaluate the complete picture financing, maintenance, warranty, technology and long term ownership not just the purchase price. The uncomfortable truth is that trying to save money without understanding the total cost often ends up costing more. Better decisions come from better evaluation, not bigger discounts. Thoughtful analysis like this helps people make decisions with confidence rather than assumptions.

Japanese focused new lineup of long term testers. Most excited for the Acura Integra (even if we sadly don't get it here in Europe). And also you need to do Subaru Outback vs Toyota RAV4 long term comparison. Hope you get soon Rivian R2 to the long-term fleet
