Description

In this Huberman Lab Essentials episode, I discuss the science of vision and share simple, effective tools to enhance eyesight and preserve eye health. I explain how the eyes and brain work together to process light, color and motion using specialized structures such as the retina and photoreceptors, and why conditions like nearsightedness, visual hallucinations and lazy eye occur. I also cover specific visual protocols to increase alertness and focus during work, improve sleep, and support visual health. Additionally, I highlight key vitamins essential for vision and discuss supplements such as lutein and astaxanthin for maintaining long-term eye health. My vision improved a lot just by walking outside without glasses. I had 2.5 degrees of miopia, and now it's about 1 degree. Just look outside and put down your phones. If it's sunny, it's even better.

⛔My tips:⛔ 📌 Look at the distance 20 minutes a day. 📌Look at the perifery, our vision needs not only a central vision but a lateral vision too. 📌Sunning: look at the sun with closed eyes 10 minutes a day. 📌 Palming: put your hands over your eyes, and try to show the darkness. This is so useful for a better vision. Try this for min. 10 minutes daily 📌Relax neck muscles, in fact trigger points and stiffness muscles could exacerbate bad vision because they blocks partially blood flow. 📌Use orange glasses in the evening and night for computer, tablet and smartphones. They block blue light for 95% . 📌 Silica is very useful for elasticity of eye lenses. 📌 Relax your mind, cut off stressors, because our vision is in the brain. Eyes are " light capture devices only", but the vision system is in the brain.

Myopia has become an epidemic. I wish I could correct mine without surgery but it doesn't seem to work. Parents please help preserve your kids' vision by limiting time indoors!

I’m in my 70s my eyesight is about perfect except I am having some problems with low light situation’s. I started wearing glasses when I was 16 when I was 35 and struggling. I lost a brand new pair of glasses and could not forward to replace them. I struggled and had headaches I heard a doctor talking on AM radio about poor eyesight, and how a lot of our vision is impaired by weak muscles in our eyes. He suggested doing exercises, such as far as possible, looking down as far as possible, look into the left, as far as possible, and to the right as far as possible. I was relentless with these exercises and after about a month or two I noticed I could see the new growth at the top tips of Pine-tree’s. I still do these exercises daily and I don’t expect ever to put on a pair of prescription glasses…. Exercising your eyes is exhausting. Go slow at first and work into it.

Astaxanthin (pronounced "asta-zan-thin") is indeed great for eye health and skin health, but it has also been shown to support brain health, cardiovascular health, joint health, muscle health, liver health, and even aging. In our work with the NIH/NIA-funded Interventions Testing Program, the gold standard in mammalian lifespan research, astaxanthin was shown to extend lifespan by 12%. Astaxanthin is a potent antioxidant that localizes in cellular membranes throughout the body, protecting lipids, DNA, and proteins from oxidation, and beneficially influencing cellular signaling pathways/functions related to inflammation and longevity. So much cool science with astaxanthin! Also be sure to look into zeaxanthin (closely related to astaxanthin and lutein in the xanthophyll carotenoid family) for eye health.
