Critique of Lean Meat, Low-Calorie Diets vs. Essential Role of Dietary Fat

Stop mistaking quick weight loss for long-term health by understanding why fat is an essential nutrient and why severe protein restriction leads to dangerous malnutrition.

Short Summary

  • Uphold fat as a crucial nutrient necessary for survival, directly refuting the idea that fat causes obesity.
  • Identify restrictive, lean-only, sub-1000-calorie diets as unsustainable paths leading to protein poisoning, hormonal damage, and eventual failure.
  • Establish that sustainable health requires eating fatty meats until natural satiety signals stop the appetite.

This discussion strongly critiques programs advocating for extremely lean meat consumption coupled with severe, prolonged calorie restriction. The speaker argues this approach fails because it ignores the essential role of fat and sets the stage for metabolic damage rather than lifelong health. Focus on primary nutrition needs before body composition targets.

Amen. One year carnivore. I tried to lose fat by eating whey protein. It did not work. One I at 80/20 grass fed beef, 70/30 ground lamb and 60/40 eggs, my body was transformed. What was so amazing is my blood pressure fell from 160/90 to 113/74❤️❤️

No better meal than ribeye steak and eggs cooked in butter.

Problem is that these bodybuilders and fitness influencers who are on PEDs are also giving workout and nutrition advice saying that their nutrition is the best and their way of working out is the best when realistically as long as you work hard with any workout routine you are going to get massive benefits when on PEDs. But then they say that one diet is better than the other because of their results but their results were stemming from the PED use and so this is completely useless. So realistically when they use peds you cannot actually trust any of their advice because it could just be the peds that got them the results and not the rest of it.

I'm 60 years old. For the last 8 years Animal Fat makes up anywhere from 2/3 to 3/4 of my daily calories, and for the last 3 years I have literally NEVER been "out of shape". I stay between 9.4 to 10.2% body fat while NEVER "cutting". And NO, I do NOT have "great genetics" as I used to be obese and hypertensive when I was 52 years old while on the Mediterranean Diet. I had the same genes back then that I have today, and I worked out as intensely back then as I workout today (though, obviously, I can do a lot more since I'm far fitter, my serum testosterone DOUBLED following my change in diet, and my body is NEVER sore or injured on my current diet). It's consumption of Plant Fats, specifically the mitochondria-collapsing vegetable seed oils (VSOs) that make our bodies get fat, because absent mitochondrial function it's IMPOSSIBLE for cells to oxidate fatty acids and yield up to 129 ATP energy units per molecule or oxidate glucose to get 36 ATP, which leaves only the 2 ATP gained from fermenting glucose as the cell's energy generation. This forces people to consume more and more carbohydrates to make up for this up to 81-fold reduction in cellular energy generation, and that excess carb consumption promotes hyperglycemia and hyperinsulinemia, both of which inhibit fat metabolism AND promote fat storage. THIS is why obesity rates went from 1.2% back in 1900 when average VSO consumption was 1 gram/day to 13.4% in 1961 when VSO consumption had risen to 19 grams/day, to 42.5% in 2018 with VSO consumption at 80 grams/day. As animal fat consumption declined and VSO went from barely consumed to the predominant consumed fat in our diet, obesity rates EXPLODED (see the work of Dr. Chris Knobbe who brilliantly lays out this VSO-obesity hypothesis). It is precisely because my predominant consumed fat comes from Red Meat that I stay supremely fit while NEVER doing any "Calorie Counting", "Portion Control", or any kind of "Eat Less/Exercise More" interventions to run "Calorie Deficits". All I do is eat Fatty Red Meat to FULL satiety (typically "One Meal A Day", as I'm almost never hungry again until 24 hours after eating), I drink ONLY water, and salt is the only seasoning I regularly use (and I sometimes take salt tablets when I sweat a lot during intense tennis workouts). I take ZERO medications, ZERO supplements, have had ZERO surgical procedures on my body, and I'm far more fit at age 60 than I was at age 20. All of that thanks to Fatty Red Meat!

Thank you for saying this! There are so many people online with ridiculous claims of diets that are healthy and profiting off the people who are desperately trying to get healthy. ❤

The strange thing I've noticed about gaining fat on a carnivore diet is that even that looks healthier. I am not bloatted, I am not inflamed and I don't look sick. I just look like I've packed some fat on top of a healthy body. Compared to gaining fat on a typical diet, where I just look sick.
