What works for me is take the Gel just before the Aid Station and wash it down at the Aid Station with provided Electrolytes or Water....that way you aren't trying to get (10) things done at the Aid Station and you can get through relaxed and efficient.
This video is a godsend.. been trying to find proper fueling plans for the whole day yesterday looking at your old videos
Surprised more people don't talk about maple syrup. One ingredient, all natural, roughly the same amount of carbs as commercial gels, better natural electrolyte profile, easy on the stomach, FAR FAR cheaper. I use refillable soft flasks. They're basically perfect in every way. I'm about to experiment with Agave Syrup for the same reason and it's higher carb content - though I've read that it's not quite as easy on the stomach. Will report back!
Best tip I can give for gels/chews: make sure you can actually functionally open them with sweaty fingers during a race! I love Clif Blocks, but I have to pre-open the packages before I run. And NOTHING is more frustrating than when the "tear" tab on a gel doesn't work and you can't get into it! I always try to carry one extra for that reason (or in case I drop one).
I got your sub40 10k plan, did it and manage to hit 39:30. thank you!
I use baby food pouches. I'd never feed that garbage to my kids, but they're great for running!
3:20 6-7 gels. Y’all hear that
Anyone else bring a bag of dates on long runs? I just started this and it seems to work great
I swear by high 5 gels. Normal gels for winted and electrolye gels for summer. Never had an issue with these and they taste great.
I always grab the free gels at races, then just stash them for my training runs to try out 😂 free is free!
