I started running 3 months ago. Last Saturday i just ran my 1st 10k runs in 57 mins
Out and back runs are useful for me because once I make it to the halfway point, choosing to cut my run short isn’t an option. Haha.
*gets off sofa* “Oh, 130 bpm…”
I've been trying to quit smoking and started some 5km walks daily for a week. And after reduicing my cig usage, tried run/walk for the first time in years 😂.. Can't even finish a 100 meter run.. Another week goes by and and a ton of discipline. Now I can run atleast 500 meters non stop.. Bought a smart watch to track my progress and waiting for my new running shoes (since I've been using my work boots for a while).. Hope I can finally quit smoking and have a better health. 😊
I'm in my 44th year of running and I'm 60 this year. We all lose motivation sometimes and I'm definitely on the struggle bus at the moment. These are good tips to be reminded of, thanks Ben.
Trained the wrong way for 25 years. Too hard every time. Then my hip broke as I finally got it. Ungodly frustrating. So I am actually faster now when injured compared to when I was pain free. The universe is laughing with scorn.
For people who don't know how to pace, try jogging at 60-70% speed just so you fail to talk fluently, if u can talk fluently u r going slow, if u can't talk at all u r going too fast
Pacing is hard. Yesterday I went out for a 14k (longest run yet) and the first km was the most difficult. During the first km I really thought I'd never be able to complete 14k if it's feeling so hard already. Then my watch buzzed with a km lap time of 5:32 and so I realised I was 30+ seconds faster than my 'easy' pace. So I eased off, and the rest of the run was fine. I feel for me it's OK to start pushing the pace in last few km if I can.
I'm now quite an experienced runner but each time I watch one of your 'beginner' vids, I wish they had been available when I started. You have an excellent way of making things simple - which I suspect is much harder to do than it looks!!
Damn, where is 1:37 located? It looks incredible.
