Description

In this Huberman Lab Essentials episode, I explore how your sense of smell (olfaction), taste, and chemical sensing influence memory, alertness, focus, and even communication between people. I explain how these senses help us detect chemicals in the environment and respond to a variety of environmental cues. I discuss the connection between the olfactory system and cognitive performance, and I provide practical tools to enhance learning, sensory function, and brain health. Additionally, I examine how chemical signals exchanged between people subtly influence emotions, biology, and social bonds. Huberman Lab Essentials episodes are approximately 30 minutes long and focus on key science and protocol takeaways from past Huberman Lab episodes. Essentials are released every Thursday, while full-length episodes continue to air every Monday. Love this haul, thank you! 🌷 I always tried to hide my body under clothes — but after doing The Meno Reset Protocol, I lost 28 lbs and now feel good in my own skin again 💃💓

I needed this. COVID significantly reduced my sense of smell and even my taste. It’s hard to enjoy the scent of the air after a fresh rainstorm, and I’m constantly paranoid about my body odor because I can’t really detect it anymore (I do shower everyday!). I’ve become a spicy food connoisseur, and while it could be worse, I can’t drink Coke or Pepsi anymore—they just taste like pure chemicals now. Luckily, I can still enjoy Orange Fanta. My hypothesis is that COVID’s spike protein caused nerve damage. If these sensory nerves were affected, I can’t help but wonder—what else might be damaged that I just haven’t noticed yet? Cardiovascular nerves? Kidney cells? Liver function?

When i was 9 my mom and i did a science fair project of "the effects of aroma therapy" presenting about 8 diffrent scents to people and getting there felt effects from the scents. It floored me, scent plays a huge role in our mood so much so that its a big part of my life from the candles i burn to the cologne i wear. Its very strategic

Incredible how something as subtle as scent can have such a powerful impact on human behavior and decision-making. The connection between smell, memory, and even attraction is so underrated. Huberman always makes neuroscience feel both fascinating and actionable. 👃🧠🔥
