When I had my son, my father told me, hAlways remember, the most important thing you can give to your child is YOUR TIME.
As a 64-year-old who has lived an amazing life prioritizing experiences and people, I do regret not earning or investing more because now I don't have as much time or energy freedom because I need to to continue earning money to make up for prioritizing experiences and relationships. There is balance here in both directions.
This is the kind of advice that doesn’t hit until you’re older. Step Into the Life You Deserve by Arden Kale talks about how wisdom always arrives late but saves you early once you understand it. This video felt like all the things we learned the hard way finally summarized into one message.
I am so grateful he talked about worry. I instantly thought of the Mark Twain quote: “ I have been through some terrible things in my life, some of which actually happened.”
As a 70 year old, I can attest to the wisdom of this doctor. Thank you so much, Mel, for bringing this to our lives!
Great podcast, My husband die suddenly at 36, however he lived everyday like if it was the last one I am doing the same, and teaching my daughters to have valuable experiences, care of themselves and love the ones who love you !
From working with many senior citizens, many of them are lonely and abandon by their love ones. Many of them feel sorry for themselves and cries out on how much they did their best for their children. Yes, we should express our love to our love ones but still protect ourselve from them harming us mentally. Everyone is not blessed with love ones that are greatful for each day and embrace one another with love and respect. I have learned from many seniors, its best to keep your peace even when you're lonely and use your wisdom to find selflove first, and find happiness and freedom within yourself the best way possible. Thank you for this book.
Great show Mel! Wonderful guest! I remember once (decades ago, I am now 73) visiting my grandmother in the nursing home and asking her her secret to living a long life. Her answer: 'Take life one day at a time, and never get old!" Well, she was successful on the first part of her advice, but as to the 2nd part, she lived to be 101 and a half! ;)
I was 19 when my father unexpectedly got sick and a few months later passed. I almost could not believe that this happened, because in my head, I had never even considered the possibility of a loved one passing, as if it is impossible. All this taught me the very hard way that life is finite and the time to do what you want, to appreciate your loved ones or anyone or anything, to enjoy yourself is truly now. This episode has made me reflect on my dad's life, as much as I know of it. He was truly an enjoyer of life, he worked the job he loved, he spent quality time with his friends, with his family, he did the things he liked and he was a positive person, his big heartwarming smile is the first thing that comes to mind when I remember what he looked like. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for releasing this episode, to remind us all of all that truly matters❤
Happiness is a practice! I have this written on every mirror in my home.
