Mel, I got your email about this podcast, clicked on the video and shut the TV off. About 1/2 way thru I paused the video, put on my workout clothes and got to my local gym! 45 minutes later I was out the door and on my way to the grocery store. On my way out I noticed a woman with 3 small children and 1 gallon of milk! She was parked next to me, so we started talking. She grew up in Ann Arbor, MI and I grew up in Livonia! We talked for almost 10 minutes about neighborly connections and loneliness, and her children. We hugged (yes 2 strangers hugging in the freezing parking lot), and both said how glad we were to meet! I'm home now, cooking and working on a project ( instead of watching tv), all because of this podcast! And, we'll, because I'm the kind of person who moves her body! Love, gratitude and hugs from Texas. 😊
Too funny, I watched this podcast because I want to create a habit of a bedtime routine. As soon as Charles mentioned tracking your bed time, I had that same nervous feeling Mel experienced and I knew I was going to be exposed. I paused the video and immediately went to get a pad and made 2 columns, date and bedtime and if I don’t go to bed at 9.30 I will right down what I did instead. I realized I recently done the same exercise for cleaning my house, at the age of 57, I have never been able to establish a routine and my house has been messy and staying tidy and cleaning has been overwhelming. “Until” someone asked me, what are you doing when you procrastinate. It was such a lightbulb moment, I was avoiding and doing every but what I wanted to do. I decided to make cleaning my house a priority that was non-negotiable and I was not allowed to do all the other stuff until I was satisfied with the house. I am blown away, my house has been spotless for 2 full weeks and I really feel I can continue this habit. I joke that even my tidy friends would be envious. Nothing is out of place because nothing trumps this task. I have negative self talk, I imagine people saying I couldn’t live like that, I like to feel like my house is lived in. Well guess what my tidy house is lived in and it feels amazing, it feels like I am winning. I had a similar experience when I started working out and eating healthy, I have been working out all my life inconsistently as I have with cleaning my house inconsistently “all my life” but I was not winning until I made it non negotiable and created a good habit and I could realise the reward I longed for. I know this comment is long winded but making my habit non negotiable and not allowing anything else to trump at first I was obsessive while creating the habit but now I have settled into the 80/20 rule. I tell you it becomes easier to do it than not do it. Thank you Mel for the inspiration!!
i’m smoking my last cigarette 🚬 rn. i’m done. ✅ thank u
I love to start out my day reading my Bible and praying to God in Heaven. That to me is the most important thing that l can do for me.l love God!🙏🏻
Thank you so much - my reward for exercise is real time. Exercising while listening to your podcast - down 50 lbs, energetic and one happy grandma (of 4)
I noticed as I have a morning routine where I get up, drink water, make my coffee, journal, then scroll a bit while sipping coffee and cuddling pup then breakfast/ smoothie viamins and walk dog. I feel so much better when I do these steps
I have a morning routine of working out, shower, skin care, make my bed, meditate while stretching, listening to a Bible study, getting dressed and grabbing breakfast before heading to work.
Mel thank you for telling me I’m enough. I was so close to ending my life a week ago. I never feel like I’m enough. You are the best
This was so great!! I have a morning routine too. Let dogs out, make coffee, empty dishwasher, do AM prayers, feed dogs then go into my office. I love that my house is neat and clean. I can then comence with the rest of my day. At the end of the day, I wrap my office stuff up, turn the lamp out and LEAVE THE OFFICE. I then let the dogs out and take a walk in my field and woods with them (absolute favorite part of my day!!) I have a prayer routine whie I am walking as well. As I am walking back towards my house, I get a huge sense of satisfaction and thankfullness.
