Order your copy of The Let Them Theory 👉 https://melrob.co/let-them-theory 👈 The #1 Best Selling Book of 2025 🔥 Discover how much power you truly have. It all begins with two simple words. Let Them. — This episode is your playbook for having saner, smarter, and more successful conversations, even when you disagree. If every dinner turns into a debate… If you feel like you're having the same argument on repeat… If you're avoiding certain topics, work events, or even your family and friends altogether... It might feel like your life is shrinking. And you’re not alone. People around the world are feeling the disconnect. That’s why Mel called in a world-class expert to give you the blueprint for finally getting through to other people without blowing up, backing down, or bottling it up. Today, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and New York Times bestselling author Charles Duhigg joins Mel to share science-backed strategies and tools to stop arguing and start connecting again, even when you completely disagree. Whether it’s politics, parenting, or that one comment that always sets you off, you’ll learn how to say what needs to be said and actually be heard. You’ll learn: -The #1 mistake that keeps arguments going (and how to break the cycle) -What to say when someone shuts down or refuses to budge -The single biggest mistake you make when you argue -How to change someone’s mind (yes, really). -Proven and simple scripts to disarm difficult people -The psychological secret that instantly shifts tense conversations Because your relationships depend on this. The right conversation, at the right time, with the right tools, is how things shift. That’s how connection happens. This is not about “agreeing to disagree.” It’s about knowing exactly what to say, so you can stay close to the people who matter most – and maybe even change their minds in the process. Great content. My only constructive feedback is that I doubt that this works that well with truly toxic people, like narcissistic people and so forth. They don't do 'social reciprocity' or mutual respect well.

my favorite thing to do when someone is venting is to ask “do you want a solution or support?” or “do you want my opinion or comfort?” and it has been so helpful as someone who usually gives more “solution” based responses. i love that you guys touched on that.

This is so helpful and needed! When Charles says, "You never have to have a conversation you don't want to have," how do you have a needed, important, productive convo with a HUGELY avoidant person who chooses to stick their head in the sand instead of adulting?

Such an important topic! Remembering the relationship is more important than the content is hard, but necessary.

Love this! My only (raised by a librarian) negative comment is: when you hold a completely opposite opinion from another person, it’s diametrically opposite, not diabolically…
