Let Them. — Today’s episode is going to change the way you think about your life. If you keep telling yourself you want to: - go after something bigger - start something new - speak up - take a chance - or finally do the thing you know you’re meant to do in life… but you “just can’t seem to find the time,” or “make it happen,” this is the conversation you need to hear right now. Seth Godin is going to call you out in the kindest, clearest, most liberating way. Seth is one of Mel’s most beloved business mentors. He’s written more than 20 bestselling books, his ideas have influenced millions of people around the world, and he’s widely considered the godfather of modern marketing. But this episode is not about marketing. It’s about the life you want to live, and why you keep putting it off with busyness, scrolling, excuses like, “I’ll do it when…” Seth is going to teach you how to stop procrastinating and start moving forward, even if you’re scared, even if you’re tired, even if you don’t feel ready. Once you hear what Seth says about resistance, you’re going to feel a fire in your belly to make you take action. You’ll learn: -The one word that is keeping you stuck and the one word that will help you move forward -How to stop waiting for permission and pick yourself -The small, simple way to start that actually works, even when you’re overwhelmed -How to stop getting trapped by fear and what other people think -How perfectionism keeps you safe, but also keeps you stuck By the end of this conversation, you’re going to feel capable, and you’re going to want to take action immediately. I am on the verge of losing my job so in my desperation I said F*ck it! and finally picked myself and painted the Koji fish I wanted to paint in my room and I feel so freakingly free when I see it finally existing. I made it WITH MY OWN HANDS. I'm living.

It's funny how we give other people so much control over our lives... the person on the other end of the phone... the person doing the interview, the person that sees our potential. We give them so much power of our lives and it's insane. I recently declared that i'm no longer letting that person on the opposite side of me or that person that's in front of me the power to dictate the direction of my life.

By pushing through the discomfort and the fear, I got into grad school after 5 years of being a caretaker for my mom. I could feel myself slipping back to how I got stuck in the first place, and getting caught up in the fear of saying "here, I made this" and being judged that its not original or good or full of mistakes or worthless. But I'm getting tired of my own excuses and this episode was such a wakeup call!! I'm going to do a project because I want to explore it with my own eyes and my own curiosity. I just love to learn about systems and the world and I have to remove the points or external incentives of is it worth it for my career. Anything is worth it as long as I'm growing!! Thank you Mel and Seth! ❤

Ive never heard of this man before today but I am highly motivated to check his work out and invest in some of his books. He's wise, straight forward, but still gentle and kind.

I just left my job because after working 15 hours a day for a company they decided they don't need senior person who built system from zero but some cheaper resources. That takes a heavy toll on me and I finally decided to start my own business and things are looking pretty well now.

I truly believe I found this video for a reason. I recently started my digital products business to help overwhelmed moms get out of survival mode, calm their nervous system, reconnect with themselves, and begin building a life they’re proud of. I only have 85 subscribers right now and haven’t made any sales yet—but I’m not discouraged. Like Seth Godin said, if you’re doing something important, there will be resistance. This is just the beginning. I’ll be back with an update in 6 months.

I once met someone at a gold storage facility in the UK. We talked about privacy, decentralization, and off-grid movement. When I asked what influenced him most, he didn’t say a course or a mentor- just quietly said, “Hidden Money Rules by Steve Braveman” No context. No explanation. Just a book that opened a door I didn’t know existed.

I grew up in an emotionally chaotic and physically disorganized household. It was overwhelming AND I remember thinking, even before I was five, “ I can’t do anything about this or that. Yet, there are things I CAN do. What shall I do today? “ And once I thought of a thing, or some things, which seemed within my ability to do, I would do them. It could be as mundane as sweeping the floor or matching socks, OR as inspiring as building my own fort out of random sections of plywood and a holey piece of canvas for a roof. Or pretending the apple tree was a spaceship that would take me to far-away places via the many, many books I voraciously consumed in the cradle of its boughs. I discovered that by refusing to let things over which I have no control suppress my desires and ambitions, a lot could be learned, experienced, AND/OR accomplished merely by my little old self, AND often with a sense of satisfaction. AND more importantly, I learned that anything after BUT is BULLSHIT.

I don't know why but when he said "If nobody comes, no one will know nobody comes". I was almost crying...

Seth's mum's story reminded me of the newsletter I am thinking about starting. Unlike social media, where we see they only have 2 subscribers and click out. If you have only one, or even no, newsletter subscribers, it's hard to know. And the fact that you actually have a newsletter will probably carry enough kudos to make them think you have many.
