One thing in the movie that gets me every time is when Theo takes out his little liquor flask he's been using the whole movie, a symbol of his very justifiable cynicism and desire to escape from everything, and he empties it to clean his hands before delivering the baby. It's so subtle, but it's this huge shift in his character and he doesn't even notice he's doing it. He has a job to do.
I was expecting Cassie to be in tears for the entire second half of the movie. She has really toughened up.
If you noticed, a lot of the shots have animals in them. In the novel, animals are treated by people like children they can never have.
That six minute long take scene they did in one shot at the end of the movie is still one of the coolest I've ever seen! 🤯
Marichka is the realest. What a hero.
It's really hard to catch the first time watching, but its hinted that there is something special about Theo. In rewatching you will notice that any time he comes into contact with an animal they befriend him. Even when they are trying to steal the car, the dogs and crows make noise that distracts the fishes.
One of the best sci-fi movies ever. The camerawork is next level. The old woman holding the dog in the coffee shop at the beginning is the author of the book this was based on.
"I feel anxious." Yes, Cass. So do we all.
One of my ALL-TIME favorite films. Visually amazing with a great story, acting, effects. It’s a profound film that has so much relevancy today.
Why did things collapse? Simple: when hope dies, anarchy is quick to take over.
