The second the ex-wife claimed that her Bipolar disorder absolved her of any consequences, was the very second that OP should've cut ALL contact with her.
There's a point where naivete stops being that and becomes idiocy... OP is a good example of that.
Sorry but there's no way the ex jumps right into a relationship with the guy who ruined her last relationship if they weren't already cheating because how else would she know they would make a better couple if there was zero intimacy, emotional or physical.

Hearing this story is like watching a person who sees someone trying to break into the house to rob them, and while upset and in disbelief that someone is attempting that, they open the door, invite the robber in, offer them tea, point to the most valuable belongings, pack them in a bag and give to the robber and then give them some leftover lasagna while waving them goodbye. You just can't feel sorry for someone so hell bent to sabotage their own life.
I cant believe this guy didnt immediately hire a PI to gain evidence, this dude played every card wrong, setting himself up for disaster
