Let Them. — This episode is a MUST listen. If you’ve ever felt behind, stuck, overlooked, or underpaid, you need to hit play. This is the most motivational, eye-opening episode that you will ever hear, and it will give you the roadmap to become the bolder, braver, more confident, and richer version of yourself you know you’re meant to be. Today, Mel is joined by Barbara Corcoran. Barbara is one of the original Sharks on Shark Tank, a real estate mogul, and one of the most influential self-made women in business. This episode will show you how to create an extraordinary and successful life, even if you’ve been underestimated, rejected, dumped, or doubted. She’ll remind you it’s not too late and you’re not too old - you can reinvent your life, achieve more, and go after what you want using the playbook she shares in this episode. Barbara was called “stupid” at school. She worked 22 different jobs before she borrowed $1,000 to start her business with her boyfriend… and then got dumped when he left her for her secretary. But that was just the start of her story. She proves that anything is possible when you refuse to quit. Today, she’s built a legendary career, created one of the biggest real estate companies in New York City, and sold it for millions - by refusing to let other people’s opinions define her. In this conversation, Barbara will give you the mindset, the strategy, and the truth you need to bet on yourself when the world doubts you and when you’ve been doubting you, too. You will learn: -The single most valuable skill anyone who lost their job needs to hear -Barbara's advice if you want to start a business today -What makes a good pitch -The most effective way to ask for a raise so you actually get one -The difference between a boss and a leader -How to beat self-doubt by changing the “tape” in your head -The simple mindset shift that gets you moving again when you feel stuck -How to turn failure into fuel -The one trait Barbara says she’ll fire you for fast This is a masterclass in confidence, reinvention, and motivation. By the time it’s over, you’ll stop making excuses, stop playing small, and start moving. I spent my entire adulthood managing other peoples businesses and making the money while I could barely afford to put food on the table. At 44 I started my own business using all of those skills and tripled my salary that first year. 11 years later, I’m about to start my second business at 55 years old. Don’t let anyone tell you that you’re too old to keep reinventing yourself.

As a psychotherapist, right away I noticed Barbara’s childhood upbringing is extraordinary—her mother was extraordinary. The power of her positivity and validation and encouragement is something that stands out— when we are unconditionally loved by our parents, we grow to believe we are worthy of the good things in life. I love her example of the nun who told her she would always be stupid because she couldn’t read and how her mother was there for her to counter that negativity. Most of us were not that lucky and still have those negative thoughts about ourselves running our lives. The good news is we can change we can challenge those negative influences. This is the bread and butter of my work as a therapist. “Change your thoughts, change your life.” thank you Mel for having her on. I am so inspired today!

I love Barbara so much! I used to waitress in my 20s and when she came to the restaurant where I worked I was so star-struck. I told her that I admired her and she was my favorite Shark on Shark Tank because she was so polite and courteous. She said that her mama taught her well. When I asked what kind of advice she could give me, she said that I could be whoever and whatever I wished to be as long as I had a desire to become that and act on it. At that time I was studying to become a fashion designer and so I did and I even went on to dress Michelle Obama. Thank you Barbara for being an inspiration to so many!

Stories like this are inspiring, but the real transformation usually isn’t the jet, it’s the mindset shift that happened when the bank account was at 78 dollars. Standards, decisions, and long term positioning change first. That’s something I’ve been reflecting on while reading What Elites Hide From You by Jeff Rogan, especially how upgrading behavior and clarity sets the foundation before the big results show up.

This was so inspiring! I have watched this episode twice now because there are multiple GOLD nuggets of inspiration, knowledge, and strength. I am 50 and I have been thinking that there has to be more than working a 9 to 5 for someone else. I have had an idea to start a business for awhile now but thought I wasn't good enough. But, I am good enough and I am jumping feet first in now, I registered the domain after watching the show and I am going all in and going for it!! Thank you!! <3

I can relate to what Barbara was saying. I also was called stupid from my step dad. He was mean through and through. I remember a teacher l had in grade school and she told me you will have a tough time through life. Just because I was a little slower than some of her students. What a let down she was!! My 2 sisters who were constantly making fun of me. My husband who I married 44 yrs. Ago was my cheer leader. He has helped me through many struggles. I’m not rich in money nor is my husband, but I can say we raised 2 wonderful children who have successfully careers. And 5 grand children. So we are rich! Thanks for all you do!!🌟😊🙏

Great to see an older woman who still sees limitless possibilities for her life. At 74, I feel the same. I’m revising a passion, writing about my experiences while aging. I pray for all older adults to keep growing, learning, loving, enjoying, and finding purpose. This episode was so inspirational - thank you Mel and Barbara.
