You can't think your way into acting differently but you can act your way into thinking differently.
So grateful that we have experts who study these topics. (And Chris who brings the best out do the guests)
What he says about life not being worth living without emotion is so very true, and something I had to learn after wishing my whole life to get rid of them (diagnosed BPD). After being on medocations which made me completely numb, life didn't feel worth living at all. I now see my strong emotions as a super power!
Emotions are expressions of biochemical reactions produced by the body which are stimulated by thoughts, often unconscious.
“No dress rehearsal. This is our life.” - Gord Downie (Tragically Hip)
Emotions are instinctive, what he defined as emotions are actually our feelings, there is a clear distinction between them. Feelings are our own creations based on our thinking patterns. Fear is an emotion, jealousy is a feeling. Rage is an emotion, being angry is a feeling. There is a clear difference. Rage is born within, it cannot be changed or modified, only trascended by time and our inner work. Being angry is dependent on someone else’s action or our own thoughts about an event or someone else
Thanks Guys, mind bending gold!
Respectfully, Dr Ethan is one of the most brilliant and kindest people on the planet.
