3 Questions to Ask Yourself to Figure Out What You Really Want
The Odyssey Plan: Three Questions to Reveal Life Possibilities
Use three research-backed diagnostic questions from Stanford University to uncover your unused potential and shatter limiting beliefs. Discover the secret to moving past feeling stuck toward the life you truly desire.
Short Summary
- Determine the inevitable trajectory of your current course within five years (Question 1).
- Build structural resilience by designing Plan B options before emergencies strike (Question 2).
- Unleash genuine desire by casting off societal expectations, money constraints, and fear (Question 3).
Learn the three core questions from Stanford's "Designing Your Life" course—the Odyssey Plan—to excavate your "unfinished business." This framework leverages both harsh realism and pure imagination to provide actionable clarity, forcing you to redesign your path intentionally rather than letting inertia guide you.

It's been a year-long process, but at age 53 I'm starting nursing school next week!
This video and Step Into the Life You Deserve work hand in hand. Both make you stop chasing “right answers” and start chasing real alignment. It’s uncomfortable at first, but that’s where the real freedom starts.
mel this was so clear and brutal in the best way, those three questions actually sliced through my fog and made me pick one real direction for the first time in months. after watching i kept thinking about Mapping the Secret Economy because it hits different after this kind of wake up content, like the frameworks finally align with the questions you just asked. i rearranged my mornings, nuked two low return habits, and scheduled the smallest test project that already feels like momentum, all without drama. cant overstate how unbelievably easy it is to get productive when the map is right and the steps are tiny. low key this video plus that guide changed my speed.
I didn’t believe in this kind of stuff before, but The Silent Dominion by Damian Cross made me question everything. Literally everything.
My father has a saying...If you don't do anything, it's because it doesn't bother you enough yet 😆. When you're ready or really fed up with the situation, you will move.
July 2025 I woke up and said, “I’m done.” I asked myself what I wanted to do besides being exhausted, stressed and hating my job. Took the leap and resigned, I finish next month. Too young to retire fully, I’ll be consulting part-time. Scary as all get out but I’m rediscovering me and saving my sanity.
I don't know why I believe it when Mel tells me she loves me, but I do.
After a fatal car accident, putting my four year old through stage IV high-risk cancer, and my husband of 21 years unexpectedly leaving days after dropping off our younger daughter at college (she recovered and is now 19), I crashed. My world went dark. An empty-nester, I had no choice but to focus on my needs, what I wanted from life -- and most importantly -- myself. The notion that I could do anything wasn't liberating, it was TERRIFYING! I'd spent a lifetime meeting everyone else's needs but my own. I had no idea what I wanted. The concept of self-love seemed like a made up thing my sister and her millennial friends talked about over brunch. But every single day I showed up for life asked myself these questions, Mel! They are transformative. I'll be 50 in February. What a time for a second act! Acts that feed my soul. I'm a teacher and freelance writer who's dying to "put myself out there" and be on your podcast one day, Mel. I'll read commercials, anything;) You inspire me! I've been through the impossible -- the most stigmatic life events no one likes to talk. But I was put on earth to connect and communicate and to help others feel less alone. I'm on Cape Cod, and would love to be surrounded by your energy. Thanks for keeping it real, Mel. xo
After 31 years of being a flight attendant, I quit my job, went to yoga teacher training, and now I absolutely love teaching yoga and leading retreats. The only things I would miss about my old job are my friends. Fortunately, they come to my retreats 🧘♀️🙂
I stopped watching Mel at least a year ago, I felt what she was saying wasn't ever something I could achieve. I was so low, depressed and all the other negatives and I just gave up! Today, I watched this video, and I'm now a subscriber again. This video came at the right time. I need and wanted to digest every word Mel said. This was Mel at her best. Thank you Mel, I'm ready to make changes.
