0:21 trans fats 3:24 protein intake 6:53 high fructose corn syrup 8:01 caloric density..still talking about high fructose 8:01 Portion sizes
Somewhere around the 1980s, dishes, cups, and glasses got a lot bigger. A 4 oz of juice became 6 or 8 oz, a coffee or tea cup of 6 oz became a mug of 10 oz, and dinner plates, dessert plates, and cereal bowls got a lot bigger, so portions did too, or else they looked like not enough. If someone gave you a 4oz glass of juice now, you'd be surprised. Muffins used to be 1.5 to 2 oz, they went to 2.5 oz, and more recently they are commonly 5 oz. Most cookies got a lot bigger too, 2 cookies now was probably 4 before, and people today are growing up with these larger sizes as their normal. Recently, candy bars got a lot bigger, I see most of them are about 1.5 times the size they were before, chip bags too, the label may say its more than one serving, but that "small" bag or bar is treated like a single serving.
Yes, thanks to you and Dr Berg I have eliminated 95% of that crap out of my life.
*The 5 most fattening foods that contribute to insulin resistance and fat storage since 1990 are:* *1. Trans Fats:* Trans fats are not metabolized as normal fats and contribute to visceral fat in particular and general inflammation. *2. High Fructose Corn Syrup:* Food manufacturers have replaced sugars with high fructose corn syrup because it is cheap to make and very sweet. The video explains that excess fructose, especially in a caloric surplus, can be very problematic. *3. Calorically Dense and Additive-Rich Foods:* Food manufacturers are adding more calorically dense things that are hyperconcentrated, and replacing better fats with things like palm oil and trans fats. *4. Refined Carbohydrates:* The video mentions that when fat was villainized, people started eating larger portion sizes of lower-calorie carbohydrates like rice and bread. Now, portion sizes haven't changed, but we are consuming higher calorie fats along with the same large portions of carbohydrates, leading to increased calorie intake. *5. Incomplete Proteins from Nuts:* The video notes that while protein intake has increased slightly, the quality has decreased with less red meat, dairy, and egg consumption, and more protein from nuts. Protein from nuts is described as incomplete and having a poor protein-to-calorie ratio compared to lean meats or eggs.
Food pyramind came out (US) in 1992 and it was awful. Train car loads of amputations from diabetes from pushing grains and stigmatizing meats. The USDs have been sketchy as well.

All of this is so true. Another thing I've noticed that lots of folks don't cook. Not that many years ago, I used to buy these frozen 10 pound bags of chicken breasts or thighs at Kroger or Walmart, and then they disappeared. Most everything is cooked. There is even frozen TOAST! And pnb and jelly sandwiches - they ard crustless and ovsl shaped. The ingredients should be interesting.
Thomas, fun fact, the top 1/5 = the top 20%. ☺️.
@4:23 "9.5 kg vs 5.9 kg" => 21 lbs vs 13 lbs (in _human_ terms)
It’s getting really hard to find minimal to none processed foods. Plus I think a lot of labels are losing on the nutritional labels. Take LMNT for example, not bashing them but all their flavored drinks contain Maltodextrin under the heading of Natural flavors. My fasting glucose was 108-109 with some recent blood work. When I associated the two as I figured it didn’t affect blood sugar that much I cut it for a few days and tested again and it dropped to 94 after just a few days without it. I’m sure my visceral fat plays a role in this but I have stopped taking it. The claim there is no sugar isn’t exactly true…
