I've been already doing what you have been discussing. Creatine is a methylated compound via SAMe. Melatonin for sleep is also a methylated compound via SAMe. There is a reason they are connected. 10% of the population are over methylators, they are the people creatine appears to not affect/improvement for muscle. 40% under methylators, creatine makes a big improvement in that population, muscle and cognitive improvement. Methionine has a adenosine group added and that creates a weak sulphur bond to transfer methyl groups. GAA (creatine precursor) has a methyl group added from the SAMe (adenosine'd methionine) and becomes creatine, then the creatine becomes phosphorolated with the 3rd phosphorus from a ATP, that ATP has now become a ADP. Creatine uses about 45% of the SAMe and has the lowest priority so if your under methylating creatine decreases first. Next lowest priority is the neurotransmitters so now SAMe is not available to add a methyl group to serotonin to make melatonin. Now your night cycle is off and you have less mitochondrial melatonin to protect your mitochondria from oxidation. Very low SAMe affects acetylcholine so now your neurotransmitters are off. Acetylcholine affects the vagus nerve for parasympathetics. So now your anxious. Supplementing creatine reduces the need to make creatine and frees up SAMe to make melatonin and to methylate other things like DNA histones to turn of genes. ALCAR is another SAMe product. If your under methylating your having trouble moving longer fatty acid chains into your mitochondria. TMG is another fun one. It has 3 methyl groups on a glycine. It can donate 1 group to turn a homocysteine back into a methionine. Homocysteine is oxidative to your circulatory endothelials. TMG enhances workouts by recycling methionine to make more SAMe. It also provides glycine to convert glutamate into GABA, another angle on mental health and anxiety. Alcohol consumption releases GABA, that's what's calming and gives courage. To breakdown dopamine, norepinephrine and epinephrine (adrenaline) you need SAMe. So taking creatine for 90% of the population improves mental health. Mic drop...
I started to double to triple the daily dose of creatine 4 to 5 days of the week and I work 7 days a week, train most days, suffered from cortisol, anxiety, depression, brain fog, lack of sleep etc etc. I can say the extra dosage of creatine wipes a lot of the issues out. Massive enhancement for me to get through my busy work days brain fog free. I’ve also increased my self improvement regime, but I massively feel the creatine boost. Mentally and physically
Really appreciate your work Thomas DeLauer, especially the past few years. You've really stepped up your game for the youtube health world.
I learned more from the comments! Thanks people!
Hey Thomas, I wish you do more videos of mental health and disorders from your angle of fitness. I think you have the tools to go deeper and educate more viewers. Stay smart and strong. Definitely BEST VIDEO , imho.
Will be starting Creatine next week. 70 yrs old, have not slept longer than 4hrs for 30yrs. Very encouraging studies being done this past year. Starting with 10-15 gm.
Listened to the whole thing. Interesting idea. Depression is a huge problem . But sleep deprivation is as well. Very cool area of study
I really like the water carving a stream bed analogy for learning and behavioral training. I always looked at it like a groove in a record, and trying to change certain habits is like carving a new groove while avoiding falling back into the old groove.
what an interesting and informative interview with Dr Fabian! Loved his perspectives and the call out for opptys for further testing per the various use cases.
How he says "mhm" every 2 seconds while Thomas is talking drives me insane!
