The 7 Most Common Magnesium Types, Explained
Optimizing Magnesium Intake: Ranking Forms and Identifying True Dietary Sources
Stop wasting money on poor magnesium supplements; learn which specific forms absorb best based on your health goals, from sleep enhancement to cardiovascular support.
Short Summary
- Dietary sources often touted (spinach, nuts, grains) are poor due to anti-nutrients like phytic acid and oxalates, severely reducing bioavailability.
- Effective supplement forms include Glycinate (calming/sleep) and Taurate (cardiovascular); Citrate is primarily useful as a laxative.
- Optimize intake first through diet—focusing on meat, coconut water, and milk—and address underlying issues like insulin resistance before relying on pills.
This overview clarifies widespread magnesium confusion by ranking supplement types by absorption and identifying true, bioavailable food sources, ensuring readers optimize their nutrient strategy efficiently.

Ngl Paul we need an updated "eat in a day 2025" video. Even tho it might be similar to previous vids, we all enjoy those videos.
Yeah -$ coffee price is ridiculous
For a few months I've been using magnesium citrate and am feeling great - no muscle cramps whatsoever.
The problem is finding a mag supplement from a company that isnt shifty in their claims or arent flat out lying.
best summary to date on magnesium, thanks
Yes! Please do a video on taurine and talk about doseage as well. I've just started magnesium taurate... so far so good.
Hmm.. I remember Paul talked with Morley Robins to take extra large portion of magnesium and now he tells he doesn’t take it at all..
You're a legend! I've been trying to find out what form of magnesium I should take.
Favorite clip on the internet today.
Very informative. Thank you, Paul.
